GamePad as X-Y Midi controller

I was looking at the new fruityloops package, and one of the features they're touting is the ability to use a USB gamepad as a midi controller.

Now I KNOW I've seen something like this before, but I couldn't find anything in a search on the Z... Does anyone know another way to do this without buyin Fruity?
