Hi,

I'm getting a laptop pc soon, and want something else than the onboard soundcard.

Ideally the card would have:
  • amplified phones out
  • ADAT I/O,
  • mic input.
I primarily get this machine cos I have lots of spare time at work, and want to make some music there. So I'll need an (amplified?) phones output.
Coming home, I can imagine connecting it to Pulsar and running ADAT between desktop and laptop machines.
At home I use an analog mixer as pre-amp, but out on the field there's no mixer. So maybe I'd want a decent mic input on it too.

Since the ideal is hard to find, would be nice if you could make some suggestions  The laptop has PCMCIA, firewire, USB2.

Cheers!

After a chat, came to the conclusion that echo indigo is an affordable dual phones output. RME is about the only ADAT but it's quite expensive, and the pre-amp'ed mic input will probably have to wait too...

Damn I can't believe there's no more choises for ADAT for example... I'll wait a bit for that.

I think what you're looking for is the 828mkII from http://www.motu.com ?

Yeah, At0mic, go for the MOTU

Thanks for your tips, but I'm looking for something smaller (and cheaper;) I have Luna2496 which i use to record line level inputs. Occasionally I record from mic, so getting the Motu would be overkill.

in the cheap area I found this
http://www.waveidea.com/en/products/uasc1/
but of course when you get this, you would also want midi no?

Myself, I think that only RME Multiface+cardbus is still the best deal.

Cheers guys  That Gigaport is kewl, that's about what I was looking for for ADAT.
This one has all I need from analog IO: the Tascam US-122. Gonna wait another week or 2 to deceide, haven't got lappy yet anyways...

[edit] New release July '03: http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/IndigoIO/index.php <--looks perfect for my -analog-needs ))))
