The MT-32 is a great little module that I am able to create very different sounds on. The key is knowing how to assign Sysex messages because, aside from CC's 7, 10, 11, and 64, there isn't much you can do to change parameters. There is no chorus in this module and the reverb can only be switched on and off. You can, however, tweak the reverb settings(I keep it off because it is VERY noisy). The only way to change the filter cutoff, for example is to do it with a sysex message.

I use the CM-32L which is the upgraded version(better byte-rate). I made myself a book of all the sysex addresses to all the parameters of the module.

One great thing about this mchine is that even though it only has a maximum of 4 voices per sound, you can tweak each voice to sound completely differently. I made a patch that has a Harp attack and a slowly ascending "Spectrum" wave sound. It sounds better once I put it through a few more effects of course but I haven't been able to reproduce that specific sound with anything else.

I am positive the price you are asked for this module, if you are buying it, is minimal. Even so, I'm sure that you can live without it unless you are like me and have already worked with it.

Paul

P.S.: Oh yeah! It isn't a GM module

I think it was a piece of crap when it came out and i don't rate it any higher now!!

Au contraire, mon ami...

It is like a D 50 with all the life sucked out of it. I love Roland synths but this is my second least favourite. The worst is the U 20. Now that is a sorry piece of equipment.

I honestly wouldn't accept one for free and i aint kidding.

It's not a great module itself, but it has a preset that is incredible imho: soundtrack. it's much better of the others with the same name on other roland machines. a true rubber pad....

I would use it if i still had it, obviously trough a couple of nice modular filters...could be much more interesting as sound source of a wavetable osc.
