since apple will stop future releases of logic, well it's bound to happen sometime,
i've been thinking more and more about switching to cubase sx.

In logic there's a plug called I/O. this is an insert plug which let me choose an output (s or m) as well as an input (s or m).
this is obviously an extremely useful tool to be able to route in and out of logic, through any SFP fx.
Does cubase sx have anything like that?
If i'm about to cough up some 6-700 euros this kind of plug HAS to be there since i found it to be extremely useful in logic.

thank you.

No, SX does not yet have an IO plugin yet. Though, given the routing capabilities of SX, you can get around this fairly easily, just route an ASIO channel through whatever you want and then back into an ASIO input. You use a touch more DSP doing this, and your track management gets a smidge more complex, but the capability is there.

If this is a make or break feature for you, then I'd wait. Given the copy-cat-edness of this industry, I'd be very surprised if Steinberg didn't jump in with their own similar feature (and maybe another thing or too). And if you're going to wait, keep an eye on Samplitude. I'm willing to bet that in the next couple of releases they'll have all the missing pieces in place alongside their already superior pieces.

Having made the switch myself from Logic Audio 5.01, I can say that SX is more than up to the task. What it lacks in midi sophistication in compared to Logic, SFP covers, and SX is organized in a way that everything is incredibly easy to navigate. I spend about half the time making edits and the like in SX as I did in Logic. Besides, if the crossgrade is still available, you can still keep your copy of Logic and get some $ off the purchase.

Hope that helps,

Sam

errr... that's the routing capabilities of SFP... ...just a typo - just want to be clear.

SX is full of bugs!
Big projects become to complex with all this midi / channel / instuments hazzle...
I did a small excursion to sx and now I´m happy like a child @ x-mas to be back on logic.
4 me, there is no other way to go..
Hard work to convert all tracks made my sx back 2 logic

I just moved from Logic to Cubase SX and love it. Cubase SX works so much better with Pulsar especially XTC mode. Logic uses much more cpu as well.

My tracks aren't really that complicated just virtual instruments and a few audio tracks for vocals and guitar. I find Cubase better than Logic but Logic does have easier automation.

Well, in the end, the ease of use factor is going to be, not only sujective, but given that you're used to Logic, requiring a learning curve to make sense of the new layout. It took me some time.

BTW, I haven't found too many bugs in my ~10 months using SX. The few quirks I did find were easily addressed by a trip to the Cubase.net forum. I use ReWire to bring Reason into SX, and it succeeds where Logic used to crash. Now as a former Logic user, I loved Logic, but as many people have been abandoned (i.e. PC users) there's going to be some level of inquiry as to what a good alternative might be. Thus far I'm very pleased with SX, and until Samplitude bumps up its MIDI capabilities, SX is really the only option in my mind. I hear Sonar is great, but as they took to long to adopt ASIO and a bunch of other features I couldn't complete my work without (including Creamware's ability to get good timing on it) I overlooked it as an option.

In so much as project complexity, I think it is difficult to argue that Logic is unmarred by such hassles. Despite its grand flexibility, it can easily become overwhelming to manage (even for 'seasoned users'). But again, this is part of the learning curve, which is a bit higher for Logic (though not as big as most people make it out to be).
