Very quiet on the development front . . .
Been very few major devices released in the past couple of months. Creamware have been especially quiet. I'm looking forward to Wavelength's new site, but overall, hmmm... Nothing from Celmo, Zarg has been silent for ages, Mjerom and Huicholity have disppeared, the new Synchrotron devices never materialised...
Sure we don't need new toys every week, but as a measure of health, activity has been minimal.

imho it's a real tough place for a developer with all that cutting edge stuff out.
I find it pretty amazing how much actually comes through to us at that level of competition. But it can never be enough

John Bowen's been quite busy upgrading the Prophets and I'm sure that the Zarg Python can't be that far off. I'm looking forward to that one.
We also know that CW have some other instruments planned for the NOAH, so lets hope that, like the MiniMax, these are also made available for Pulsar users.

Very impressive! That explains why Pulsar is so powerful! Nevertheless, computers are going more powerful all the time, and Creamware will need to counteract soon with more hardware power… unavoidably! Many people out there are already thinking that a DSP card does not worth the price nowadays cos you can do everything and the same with a CDU based studio.
I personally, don’t think so, not yet, but the day will come, this is true, and it could be next year. There is already a Pentium IV 3.06 GHz that works as if it was a double CPU, hummm the thinking goes on…

You can't compare the sharc DSP's with other CPU's, it's another world, a DSP can make mistakes, a CPU can't since that would lock a system up;
There's a lot more in a CPU than in a DSP.
Look how much VST instruments and effects you can run nowadays on a modern system !
The creamware cards are nice for the in's and out's, the dsp's are only nice for a few FX's and the modular.
If VST instruments and effects could run on those DSP's and devide jobs over all DSP's and the system CPU, than the creamware platform would get more interresting than it currently is.
There's a lot more in a CPU than in a DSP.

DSPs are doing a specialized math, much faster and much more precise that those native CPU math libs that you include in your C++ or whatever progs.
That's why DSPs exist and that's why there aren't any (to my poor knowledge after trying all demos) native synths that can compete with DSPs in the quality domain.
I agree that some nice packages exist but ALL of them use lots of effects to improve their sound.
You're right on the number of voices in VSTis or native synths.
They sacrifice quality for quantity, which of course doesn't matter if the result is exactly what you want and like.
But you totally underestimate the Modular. With a few exceptions (Minimax and Vinco due to marketing) it contains all and everything Pulsar/Scope can do.
All other devices pick out a subset of the available processing functions and put them in a nice user interface to make it more easy to handle.
VSTis devided between CPU and DSPs is quite what Pulsar XTC mode is about, so you don't have to wait on this feature any longer.
