Ikaron Modular Syntheziser with dedicated 5 DSP-chip soundca

Ikaron has announced that they will release a Modular Syntheziser that comes with a dedicated 5-DSP-chip soundcard. The idea is that the syntheziser shall work as a dedicated soundmodule, and the "soundcard" can't be used as a real/normal soundcard:

Wow.., looks similiar to the TC PowerCore, and Yes it's like having a rack synth, but it does not have Digital I/O, just analog. May be that's why its sample rate is 48Khz. Its price will be 800-900 Euros.

5 to 6 six years after the Nord and Pulsar Modulars it doesn't exite me at all.
What's so great about reinventing wheels ?
Seems nothing complete yet so at least it will be a great object for watching promises, schedules and excuses.

Anyway, nice putting this up, Petal, it's always good to know what's up.

Well, I don't disagree with you Tom, but I find it interesting, that there are people out there besides Creamware who believe that there are still great potential in DSP-power combined with the modular syntheziser-concept. And if we are lucky, it might "inspire" the developers at Creamware to do even better

I have to agree: Modular rules.
I'm still newbie to this as it takes lot of time to practise, but it's totally impressive what can be done by even simple patches. And the soouuuund

The more I use it the more I love it.
And now there's already Mod III and Minimax and Stephen Hummel has announced new stuff as well...

I was just wondering why people replied to this one, but let my 'announcement' from a while ago unanswered.

As I'm not a modular geek at all, I have not much comments on the card. Maybe that it's a brand new thing, hasn't prooven duty and there's little info about devices and modules on their website.

Did you see how they did away with the OS problem? There is an OS, but it controls the card via MIDI or so. No direct control from the OS over PCI bus to the card. Like the PC only serves as a powersupply for the modular synth. Hmm...

Note that this Ikaron card uses the same chips as the TC-Powercore.

seems not only the same DSPs but also the same controlling PowerPC chip, just distributed a little different.
Maybe Motorola has a prototyping lookalike ?
If the user interface is driven by midi commands that's exactly the way Clavia does on the Nord Modular.
I'd suspect this not even a serious business attempt but something rather obscure.
