how do you send your music?

hello,

just start to think about sending music to label's and i'v heard somewhere that i should
send a part of the track or squezz it somewhere in the middle to protect it from
unwonted hand ,

right or wrong ?

it maybe sond strange to some of you but
after i discovered that the store that i buy
my pulsa2r from try to put an old pulsar that have been used 2 for two years and i
discover this only when i got home ....

hoping for better future .

hi,
first of all the best thing is to see how you can copyright your compositions.
i don't know in other countries, but in italy we have a society called s.i.a.e. that for a ab. 75 euros per year and an initial subscription registers compositions and collects rights.
you can also send mid-low quality mp3's to the companies, they wouldn't use the stuff you send, but only copyright can protect you from the stealing of your ideas.

thins is a realy idea and i'll startt to look for compeny like you mentioned but,
after i copyright i whould like to send my
music to label's that located far from where i am (israel) and some i don't know to well.

do you pepole send the whole file to the label's or just a part of the track and if
they are interested they will contact
me etc.etc.etc.

i think that a not too good mp3 format will prevent anyone from using that recording. this way you can also send it via internet.....

Alfonso, I've dealt with producers who told me send me MP3's only to find out that they listened to the music through their crappy little computer speakers...

Omb, copyright your music and send a CD with your BEST song first and then maybe a couple more tunes. If, and I stress "IF", you're lucky, the rep at the record company will listen to the first 30 seconds of your tune (probably while he's on the phone ordering a sandwich

)

one time, I had to walk this guy through the entire downloading process, from "please click on the start button, then programs, then internet explorer" all the way to saving the mp3 on the desktop... and then he goes, "I just dont hear any sound!" I go through the usual multimedia trouble shooting.... only to find out the guy didn't have speakers!!

hmm.. well, this is kind of OT. hehe.

how were they as producers? have been they useful to you?

a good producer knows what he needs to know of what he gets from the composer. usually they don't care about demo's quality, they check the idea. if they need to know how is your studio's sound, they know how to listen or they ask you a better format.

I make my living from TV program royalties.
Most producers I've dealt with are quite good. Their biggest problem is the fact that more and more they work with smaller budgets .

It is my understanding that producers constantly have to justify the use of an original composer for their shows to the TV stations they are selling the shows to. Canadian Cable TV has only recently been asked to pay royalties to composers and some stations were hit hard because they took the matter all the way to the Supreme Court and lost. Most of them are still paying interest.

Because of these events producers here have become salesmen instead of creators of great TV programming. Not much time left for them to listen to music sadly...

This is very wide topic to talk about. I’m a complete beginner at this, all I can say is what I’m doing myself to try to reach the same thing you are trying to reach. So I can’t really advice you, I will rather give you some points of view about this topic:

I would build a CV of myself, talking about your experience as musician, composer, programmer, etc., and whatever else that may be relevant to the people you are going to be in touch.

Build two demos CDs, one in Wave format, to be send everywhere, and a MP3 format, to be send through the NET. That may help too.

Think about what you are good for, what you can do, then search for the companies that produce or work in this area. Don’t think you are NOT going to be heard, neither think you ARE going to be heard, just send them nor forget about it. One day, it comes to you your first job, and through this, you can get in touch with those who rules the matter.

Otherwise, I would suggest to you plug into the endless web sites talking about that on the Net, there are many, many sites about this important topic. Please, read the topic posted by Spoimala in the Off Topic area about how we all ear our living, that may help too. Good luck in your path to become a professional musician…
