hi
I want to invest some money in my orchestral sample libary, does anybody have suggestions on:
*strings
*brass
*woodwinds
*percussion
I have a few in emu format but I like them in sts format. I've heard "smart violins"at a friends place, but was not very impressed.
thanks

The new, big libraries are released mainly in giga format, because of its streaming capabilities. I used a 1.5 gig piano program with plenty of room to load many more instruments in giga. But, a friend of mine with an emu sampler took that piano bank, polished it and reduced it to 250 meg without any quality loss, and in fact with an enormous improvement due to the filtering which he programmed in his sampler... He also made a diluted version of 60 megs, which sounds better than the 1.5 gig version!!
So when you resize and clean the samples, you can make these programs manegeable on non-streaming softwares.
As for the coming orchestral libraries, there are amazing products coming soon. We can say gigantic libraries, which might make everything else more or less obsolete. Check at http://www.northernsounds.com in the quantum leap orchestral library forum. The other project is called Vienna symphonic library. For horns, check the amazing sam horns sold at an amazing price! I'll probably be buying the sam cd as soon as I can.

first of all thanks for info.
I'm really a nitwit with those things, I also have Emu piano program but I would not know how to load them in the STS, same for giga format.
To MARCUSPOCUS: Respect man!!! how you always take time in both forums to help other people, and on top you find time to make music.... thanks

Yeah, that's why i left gigastudio. Too much of a resource hog. The streaming of sample, while it is very desirable for hi polyphony count, you need a second physical drive for that, if not a complete second PC!
My STS5000 is far more performant when it come to 'everything on the same machine'. And i also have LOT more control than giga.
