XITE-1 power adapter specs

Post by LarryK »

I know XITE takes a 12 VDC - 3 amp adapter. Can anyone confirm anything more specific about the adapter? Is there a recommended manufacturer or part number or anything more specific? I need to find a replacement adapter. Thanks! Danke!

Thank you for the link. For some reason I am unable to complete the purchase through the SC website. Is there a trick? lol
Is this the only real option? I see many adapters on Amazon that seems like they would work. What makes this one so special except for the fancy label on top lol Maybe I need to create an account first?

Maybe try the following link after adding the adapter to the cart and see if you can proceed then?

Don't know about other adapters, but I for one would only use the "official" one.

I was able to get in! The problem is... lol $126 USD for the adapter? Yikes!
I'm gonna ask the question again - is there an alternative that I can buy here in the US? I'm seeing options that cost no more than $20 USD on Amazon. If I could get the specifications for the adapter, I'm sure I can find a suitable alternative and save a lot of money buying here. The irony is I'll likely be shipping my XITE to a european buyer.

There are no more detailed specs for such adapters, aka switching power supply units.
Just the output voltage and ampere, but no details about noise or specific features of the regulation.
They can be very (!) different, f.e. some „better“ ones will auto power off themselves if the XITTE is switched off, while most regular ones just continue to draw current.
That‘s not a big issue, but some units continue to generate heat and age faster.
For simplicity: buy a quality adapter in the mid price range and stay away from the super cheapos. :D

Btw I‘m using a LaCie external HD PSU type ACD048A12 (12V/4A) for my Audient ID22 with no problems.

I would not buy a $20 adapter on amazon or ebay. When you open them up, you realize why they are so inexpensive.

I've been down the same path with laptop adapters, and fried laptops. You don't necessarily need an 'official' one, you need a properly built, shielded and (power) buffered PSU though. Just as with your PC. I've fried laptops using a cheap PSU, so consider that with your Xite's original (and repair) costs.

$126 is due to volume, I'm sure, which will be low. But my Xite has been running for years, and investing in a backup when time takes its toll is a no-brainer.

Well good news! I found my original XITE PSU. This is the specs for the unit (see photo at following link).

https://share.icloud.com/photos/0056q_R ... QWML42nXdQ

The model number STD-1250P can be cross-referenced to other similarly branded products. Here is a Google AI search result:

The STD-1250P is a model number for a 12V DC, 5A (60W) AC/DC power adapter, commonly made by Condor or for brands like Sceptre, Eurasia, and Adapter Tech, used to power devices like LCD monitors or TVs that require stable 12-volt DC power from a wall outlet, featuring universal input (100-240V AC) and crucial safety features like overcurrent/overvoltage protection, with compatible replacements widely available from various manufacturers.
Key Specifications:
Input: 100-240V AC, 50/60Hz (Universal/Worldwide)
Output: 12V DC, 5A (5000mA)
Wattage: 60W
Brands: Condor, Sceptre, Adapter Tech, Eurasia (often sold as compatible replacements)
Part Numbers (P/N): SA-125A0IV, PS-1250APL05, SA-060121A-3 are common associated numbers.
What to Look For When Buying a Replacement:
Voltage & Amperage Match: Ensure the replacement is 12V and at least 5A (or higher amperage is fine).
Plug/Tip Size: Verify the physical connector size and polarity match your original device.
Safety Certifications: Look for CE, FCC, and built-in protection (over-temp, over-current).

I found one on Amazon for $15. The only other thing worth mentioning: the adapter plug (that plugs into the back of XITE) is a bit different than a lot of other similar products. It's not the same size as the A16 for example. I have a box of old wall warts and I was only able to find ONE that fit the XITE input jack precisely.

Here's a picture of the plug tips for both XITE (left) and A16 (right). The XITE plug hole is a bit larger than the A16 hole

I like Meanwell,- also bought many "replacements" for Oberheim DPX-1, AKAI S-1000 and other like Mditemp PMM-88E, SCSI syndrives and such.

For XITE-1: Mean Well, GST60A12-P1J

That‘s exactly what‘s printed on the power adapter that came with my XITE-1.

I was talking to Gary B about this business last night. His perspective is - probably better to deal direct with Sonic Core if you're not 100% sure about what you're getting. Apparently there have been problems in the past with damaged motherboards due to incorrectly sourced PSU's. I agree - for the amount you're paying for XITE it makes sense not to skimp on something like this. My only thought was buying something from Germany and paying these new ridiculous tariffs, VAT's, shipping etc.

Plus, I found my original PSU so I'm ok lol But maybe this will help someone in the future. If you're in trouble and need an emergency solution you might be able to grab one of these replacements quickly. Cheers!

there are many that look compatible on amazon, but they are not.
Got one recently, it worked for a couple of days, then it gave non stop "dsp not found" etc errors.
So it is not really about the specs, it's about how long the psu can actually deliver the specs, and that's not in the specs...
They have the right ones in stock @SC, so i returned the "fake" one once I received the right on from SC.

Heat is what kills the power adapter. The Xite runs hot and so does it's power supply. I place my Xite power adapter directly on a small fan facing upwards. I have had this power adapter for over 10yrs (i think) It has been so long I can't even remember where I bought it but I'm sure I did not spend $100+ on it. Ventilation saves electronics but do as you wish...

Heat & sustained load are more or less the same things, but it's component tolerances (they will source components with a wider variance, so the failure rate over time shows significant issues compared to the higher QA builds out there) and underbuilding. There's a guy on youtube I enjoy watching, all he does is tear apart electronics like this and critique them. ASMR for those of us that have GAS.
