What is the small, male 4 pin floppy connector on the underside of my PowerPulsar actually there for? Is it necessary for all uses? 3 card installs? My PSU just died and no new ones have that small connector on the end of a Molex/PATA cable. Easy enough to make but is it required?
Speaking of PSU's, I'll be damned if I can find a 450-650W new one without multiple cables I have no need for on a Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R mobo. I may go modular with a Corsair RM750x to reduce clutter.
Scope PowerPulsar floppy power connector
Re: Scope PowerPulsar floppy power connector
Modular and extensions where needed (like the 4 pin floppy connector on your PowerPulsar) is recommended.
Re: Scope PowerPulsar floppy power connector
Where are you based? I have a couple of modular psus I'm not using. I'm in Berlin, Germany
Re: Scope PowerPulsar floppy power connector
Seattle WA. Thanks but I’ve decided to get the Corsair as it’s a zero RPM to ultra quiet model.
Re: Scope PowerPulsar floppy power connector
I don’t see any information on that floppy connector in the Scope manual. No mention in the installation instructions.valis wrote: Mon Oct 06, 2025 2:27 pm Modular and extensions where needed (like the 4 pin floppy connector on your PowerPulsar) is recommended.
Re: Scope PowerPulsar floppy power connector
power for Z-Link(for Luna boxes)?
Re: Scope PowerPulsar floppy power connector
Seems likely.

This is from the manual:
If you want to connect one or two Luna 2496 I/O Boxes or also A16 Ultra units to the Z-Link plate, you must connect the floppy power connector with the appropriate connector on PC's internal power supply. Otherwise proper power supply to the PCI bus as per specification is not possible.

Where to find in the Scope v5 (which chapter ?) manual ?sunmachine wrote: Tue Oct 07, 2025 12:16 pm This is from the manual:If you want to connect one or two Luna 2496 I/O Boxes or also A16 Ultra units to the Z-Link plate, you must connect the floppy power connector with the appropriate connector on PC's internal power supply. Does that mean, WHEN there´s a Z-Link plate (is this the same as the "balanced output" PRO- plate ?) mounted on the SCOPE PCI card, that Pro-plate (w/ Z-Link) needs a separate power line via floppy power connector on PSU ?
What´s up when there´s a floppy drive,- already using that power cable,- in the "old" 32Bit machine and there´s no other additional connector on PSU nor such cable available ?
EDIT:
O.k., I´ve found it in the installation chapter and ONLY for the "SCOPE 3DSP ADAT expansion" board !!!
But,- the OP is talking about a Power Pulsar card,- which I myself also use together w/ 2x Pulsar-2 cards and w/ a A16U connected.
Currently I cannot remember using such 4-Pin floppydrive power connector w/ such a card.
So,- are you sure it´s needed always, or just only for the Scope3DSP extension ???

Re: Scope PowerPulsar floppy power connector
there was once a paper installation manual.
no, z-link is not the same as the balanced card.
there is no "pro plate". a Scope Professional card(which means "15 dsp") could have a balanced plate, an unbalanced plate, a z-link plate, or a 24 ADAT plate.
the power connector is only needed when using z-link with the Luna boxes. the A16 has it's own power supply. Luna Boxes do not.

Yes, that quote is from the paper manual printed in 2006, page 97 with title "Installation Instructions for Optional I/O Plates, Classic 20 I/O, PLUS, Z-LINK". There's a similar text on page 99 which is titled "Installation Instructions for SCOPE home ADAT Expansion".

Re: Scope PowerPulsar floppy power connector
Thx,- Gary and Sunmachine !
I just only wanted to be sure because I run my HP server w/ a Scope Professional 15DSP (2nd gen), 2 Pulsar-2, a Z-Link plate, a Sync-plate and a A16U connected via Z-Link,- and there´s also a balanced plate w/ XLR breakout cable,- and it works.
But the other 32Bit machine will run 2 Luna-2, one of these w/ extension board, a Pulsar-2 in addition as also a A16U.
Good to know I won´t get problems ´cause all is about the LUNA-boxes, which I don´t use.
