I have a simple-ish (hopefully) question.
If there’s no need to use the wave or ASIO drivers, is it possible to use Scope 5.1 in Windows 10 64-bit? All I would need is the Scope environment with direct use of Scope MIDI i/o and ADAT i/o only within the Scope environment. I don’t need to use software MIDI src/dest modules, just the hardware MIDI src/dests within Scope.
Also - is the signed driver issue a big problem bearing in mind that Windows 10 is no longer scheduled to receive updates?
I’m using a ‘final build’ Windows 10 machine with an RME card totally offline for quite a while now. I have no need to go online with this box or update it and it seems totally okay with this. I’m just wondering if it might also be possible to run Scope 5.1 in this type of setup. It’s not a huge deal if wave/ASIO is not possible - if I need to run any native software with wave/ASIO the RME can handle that. But it would be great to run Scope itself.
Windows 10 and Scope 5.1 without Wave/ASIO
Re: Windows 10 and Scope 5.1 without Wave/ASIO
Yes you can do that, still have to do the signed driver bypass trick to get the Scope card seen at all, as it still requires its Windows driver to work.
Both of my Scope machines are sidecars to my DAW machine(s), and the only time I use ASIO is for Bidule or VCV Rack (only v1 works with Scope but that's often enough for use alongside Mod4/flexor/SpaceF stuff).

Hey thanks for the reply Valis, I’m assuming the trick is to disable driver signature enforcement as described here?

Seems simple enough if so, at least as a temporary solution until I can afford to buy v7

Re: Windows 10 and Scope 5.1 without Wave/ASIO
I'll let someone else confirm but yes it shouldn't be different than any other unsigned driver.
(Note that I'm on v7 for both of my machines, my Xite box runs Win11 pro and I'll be moving my PCI installation to Win11 eventually as well.)

Re: Windows 10 and Scope 5.1 without Wave/ASIO
windows 10 will always try to update. if you don't let it try, it will keep trying until it connects to the internet, even if there are no updates.
windows 10 is not a product, it is a service managed by m$, so it needs the internet, at least when first booted. the update attempts will often make trouble(eating cpu cycles) until they complete the function.
otherwise, there shouldn't be a problem. i don't know that the driver will be removed once updates are over, but it can always be reinstalled if it is removed.

Re: Windows 10 and Scope 5.1 without Wave/ASIO
Hi Gary thanks for your input! It’s puzzling to me though, maybe it’s because I installed the Windows 10 decrapifier script which disables a lot of the spyware and stupid stuff like advert-infested search bar etc. I stay totally away from MS account stuff. I just run with local admin account, local network is ok with internet disabled, it’s not really much different to when I was running Win7 (except the OS uses tons more resources and hard disk space for no real useful reason
).
Maybe I’m just not doing anything which creates problems (mostly running some native softsynths on that machine) or maybe any performance hit is too small to be noticeable?
Apart from the above though - how are updates ever going to be a problem for an OS which is scheduled to receive no more updates? Maybe I’m missing something crucial, happy to be educated!
Either way it’s good to know that it’s an option to try and get running to some level in Win10 until I can afford to get v7.
Cheers

Re: Windows 10 and Scope 5.1 without Wave/ASIO
i don't use an account in any of my computers.
it's fine to have internet disabled, BUT, it's a good idea to allow the computer to attempt to update on the internet every day, if you are using Scope ASIO or anything that is time dependent. since the computer WILL try to update and that WILL create disruptions. win10 is NOT the same as win7, even though they look to be similar.
win10 is programed to "phone home", it has nothing to do with scheduled updates.
of course, if you don't have any issues, don't worry about it. if you get strange glitches or audio clicks, connect to the internet and check for updates, when there aren't any updates, disconnect and the problems will be gone. if you only use Scope as a stand-alone FX/synth box, it probably won't matter.
a legitimate win7 license key shouldn't cost more than about $10. there are plenty of gray market suppliers with stacks of keys who would love to sell you one, but win10 should be fine, too.

Re: Windows 10 and Scope 5.1 without Wave/ASIO
Great info, thanks. I have a feeling the decrapifier script took care of a lot of the phoning home and spyware antics, I’m pretty sure I disabled all the services which handle updates, although it’s very possible that these are engineered to keep restarting at the most annoying moments
maybe you’re right and I should let the machine ‘breathe online’ every now and again to keep it happy
The main reason I like to stay offline is that it’s the only way I can be sure to keep it reliable and secure because I don’t have the time to manage internet security on every computer I use
windows keys are not the issue, I use a legit Windows 10 retail box which cost around £30, and I used a legit Win7 previously. The main thing I’d like right now is to abandon the old WinXP/Win7 setup and consolidate to one Windows 10 install.
The decrapifier thing by the way is this: https://community.spiceworks.com/t/wind ... ier/975250
