If it does become a reality, some clever soul will find a way round it.

Love won't win I'm afraid. Although I'd hope with you. It takes about one generation to get used to most stuff, then people just live with it as if it never had been different.
We know we should not do it, but it leaves few options. No other platform is so powerfull. Even Mac is owned by M$. Anyone fancy of Linux, Beos,...? Not me.

"And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name." (Revelation)

Last year, in Singapor first experiments were made with implanted ID-Chips in the skin of the right hand instead of a creditcard...

Will you love the big brother?

Does that mean old computers won't be able to access internet?
This means ISP overhauls new equipment more money, very unlikely to work.US seem to be in bad economic state to become this Draconian.

Well,

Fear only governs one thing... ourselves.

Everyday, each of us makes choices to use comptuer systems. Personally, I'm using Linux, Mac and Win98Lite on my machine. It's as remotely unmicrosoft as I can get still having to use MS Visual Development Studio and software (Cakewalk and such) that works on Wintel Platforms.

Furthermore, if there is hardware out there, that can do this, an it allready does exist that technology called bioinformatics will be used for great good and evil. Charles Dickens was prophetic today as it was a hundred years ago about it being the best of times and the worst of times.

Hackers of the world will have their little black boxes to do the tricks they do today in a different capacity. The real danger here is not hackers but the fact that Microsoft can do this and people will go along with it.

I've often wondered how Hitler and Stalin did what they did at the will of their own people. I've never known Russians and Germans to be any less intelligent or more intelligent than us Americans.

Both countries have been very resourceful in their persuits but to allow 7 million Jews/Polish Nationals to die at the hands of Adolph Hitler and 20 million Ukrainians to die at the hands of Stalin.

I now see that we've learned nothing from this (whoops I forgot some other despots like Mao Tse Tung, Castro, and Tito) and that here in the good life we go like lambs to the slaughter.

If we're making George Orwell look like a prophet then we're definately not making the right kind of buying decisions.

We determine our futures. Let's do something about it like influence Bill Gates Pocket Book---By a Mac, Invest in Sun Microsystems, Red Hat Linux, Silicone Graphics, and learn how to program Java.

Keep those competing technolgies alive as a matter of principle instead of wallowing in fear. It creates wealth and innovation in ways that limit the powers of 'the beast'.

P.S. Creamware if you can read this you promised us a BeOS machine four years ago. [hint hint]

Motherfuckers.....

For all of their bullshit and antics, I've cut Microsoft some slack for making computing more accessable to the general population. UNTIL NOW.

Enuffs Enuff. As tekkies (and if you know enough to make music on computer then your tekkie enuff) its up to us to educate those who won't know what this means.

Make it your job to spread the word as much as you can as fast as you can people.

I remember some years ago when the Shell Oil company wanted to get rid of an outdated platform in the North Sea it took about one week of boycott of their gas stations to make them give up that idea.
The only problem seems to find a kind of uniting idea to raise such kind of power.
I never understood how such an expensive system like the MS stuff could be so widespread in industry (where people who studied economics make decisions).
Total cost of ownership should be common knowledge meanwhile.
But obviously money making isn't enough anymore for M$, wanna play god ?
Leave upgrades and service packs untouched in the shelfs and see how long they can stand this.

it sucks totally, Tom

Considering M$ security history, we can at least get the consolation that it's going to take them years to make this work properly.

Loosing any form of freedom sucks!
