Wassup everyone. Can somebody please give me some examples of soundcards that are known to work well with the Pulsar XTC. I'm in the $500-$600 price range and I'm looking for low latency so I can play the pulsar synths in Cubase.
Also, what type of latency should I expect? For example, If my card is currently running at 5ms, what will the latency be for the XTC?
Please excuse my ignorance. Thanks.
Can somebody point me towards the right soundcard?
Hay thanks for the reply. The XTC doesnt have any in/out from what I've read so far. The description I read said it was basically meant to add DSP power to be used within Cubase. They do have an optional daughterboard I think but I'm considering soundcards with built in pre-amps so I can record vocals directly (Aardvark Pro 24/96, Edirol DA 24/96, etc.) Would it better to use the Pulsar II for vocals, instead of a separate card and the XTC?
In my opinion, the daughterboards are far too expensive compared to i.e. a used Pulsar2

as vocals are generally a crucial part of recording, better use an external mic-pre or channelstrip. Though I don't know details about the boards you mention, it's hard to imagine they can compete with something like SPL or Joemeek. On 2002-08-23 04:42, AD80 wrote:

There's a price limit for 'soundboards' that forces compromises in quality.
I'd also suggest a 2nd hand Pulsar 2.
You'll love those 12 DSPs and you're not restricted to XTC mode.
cheers, Tom
Well, I've been wheeling & dealing on Ebay for a while now. The auction just started and I already have 3 bids with 5 days left to go. Usually, it doesn't heat up until the last day or so. I'm sure I'll get a fair deal. Everything I've ever listed on Ebay has sold and I've always gotten what I think is a great return. I'm not worried at all.
In fact (and here's a secret tip) I've been selling studio time on Ebay. It's turned out to be a great way to drum up business. I've had a number of bands that came in from out of state to record in my studio (one all the way from Jackson, Mississippi). I highly recommend it. Doesn't cost much to list your ad (cheaper than the local newspaper
