Win 7 64 to Win10

Recently upgraded Win 7 64 to Win 10 64, not because I wanted to but because of an increasing number of program installers requiring Win 10. Uuuugggh! Scope 7 is working great, but now getting pops and clicks with VST devices.
Tried everything I could think of to minimize CPU resources but alas
The computer is old and has served me well (Dell T3500 workstation 15GB RAM) but it's probably time to move on I suppose.
I don't hold much hope but I'd appreciate any tips to try just as a last resort.

windows 10 has extra stuff in it.
be sure to REMOVE Onedrive.

win10 must be connected to the internet and allowed to update. otherwise, it keeps trying and will lead to clicks.

If you disconnect from the internet, how long do you figure until it starts fussing?

Can't find any trace of Onedrive, I think I removed it immediately along with a lot of other unnecessary stuff.
Changed my UULI from 3ms to 25ms and it seems to have helped a lot.
Hmmm not sure if I can live with that. I try to play my tracks live and that will most likely become a sync problem.
Or.....I could just not use VST at all I suppose...
Hate the thought of the work involved migrating to a new system

Perhaps some driver is not playing nicely on win 10?
Have you tried DPC latency checker if that points to a particular device?

how long? a couple of days at best.

what vst is making problems? maybe it's just eating the cpu.

Well with all of the multi core wars going on I can see Microsoft killing my quad core 4790k soon.
I leave it online 24/7 becuae it starts getting shitty after a few days.
Probably different for everybody but 3 days is when I notice the search for Spock crap.

Here, Win 10 is for office/internet only.
Already when booting, it more than occasionally comes up w/ blue screen and tells me it needs repair.
Then I switch off the computer and on again,- and voilá,- all is how it should.

Seems to be a checksum thingy and might be caused by SSD trim function,- but more often happens after the machine received automatic updates in background before.

This is NOT a system for relaxed and serious audio/MIDI work,- and I don´t understand why so many software manufacturers jumped on that train so early w/ their installers.
I´m pretty sure, must of the stuff would still work on Win 7,- once installed !

I´m happy S|C supports all,- even WinXP and up to Win10 !
I´ll stay w/ Win7 though and give a s##t on native VST updates/upgrades.

Ok so seems it's not looking for the internet problem.
Well i'm pretty sure it's completely a CPU resource issue. Because.....it happens more often when i load more intensive programs such as synths with more poly or a big reverb. It's just that AFTER I upgraded to Win10, it happens more frequently when in the same scenario on Win7 it didn't which means the OS is using up more resources. Sucks. Worth a try but I prob just have to live with it for now until I get so frustrated I'll upgrade my system.

google for w10privacy or shutdown10. This allows you to disable all that stupid background tasks of Win10.

Win10 really is a piece of shit, as it's very hard to take back control of your pc.

w10privacy, o&o shutup10 and see the privacy thread linked here in OT.

Btw, Win7 is now EOL for driver updates, as is 8.1. That means all future drivers will be unsigned OR versions that also 'comply' with Win10 and get WHQL signing by going through the Win10 version of the program. Get used to disabling driver signing in all other versions now...

I´d really like to see some advice how to set up Win10 privacy for audio/MIDI work,- w/ the option, accessing internet for occasional downloads and receiving updates.

There are so many options available in Win10 privacy,- I´m confused.
And,- I have the same problem w/ services,- also already w/ Win 7 Pro.
