My A16 Ultra's going to trash..
Hello
Following a problem with an Adat B that wasn't working...
So I plugged the A16 by Zlink, but it doesn't work normally, I have the red Zlink led on the scope, but it's also red on the Zlink light of the A16.
Then randomly it turns green and everything works normally.
Could it be that the power supply of the computer is too low? I guess for the Zlink the 10m cable is not a problem.
thank you

bad cable or bad power supply on A16 or bad A16 are my guesses...

After checking everything, and before throwing away my A16
As I bought it second hand, is it the original power supply, if not which power supply do you advise me to use?

Re: My A16 Ultra's going to trash..
that should work, i believe. did you put a meter on it?

Have a look in this thread - Your problem sounds similar:
https://forums.scopeusers.com/viewtopic ... 16#p327670
Your A16Ultra might not be quite ready for the trash yet, just a little love and understanding

Re: My A16 Ultra's going to trash..
In the end, the problem is the same as that of petal...
the aging A16s have a problem with the on/off switch.
Button left on yesterday, power supply deplugged, this morning, when the PC starts up, power supply replugged, the A16 is well connected.
problem solved

My presonus monitor controller's switches AND potentiometers all failed within a year or so of original purchase. Imagine how much longer A16U's switches have lasted.

True !
Is there someone in the forum who already opened A16Us and repaired and/or are there service manuals in the ballpark too ?
Normally switches are easy to replace when you know what´s in and where to find/buy.
While overhauling my gear we found out many (if not most) of the gear from 80s and 90s used Omron tactile switches for various operation panels https://www.components.omron.com/produc ... arentId=20,- Yamaha, Roland and even JL Cooper´s Fadermaster Pro you can still buy today.
Oberheim used Marquardt for their Xpander/Matrix12 etc. ...
Some pushbutton-switches ... https://www.marquardt-switches.com/push ... no_cache=1
Just only examples, but most is available from Mouser and Digikey.

Original or not doesn´t matter.Strictly East wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 2:04 am ... is it the original power supply, if not which power supply do you advise me to use?
For A16U you need output AC 12V / 1.5A.
For my S|C "blackface" A16U I have AC 12V 1.6A and for my CW A16U there´s a much more bulky AC 12V / 3.5A.
Both work.
I´d wish I´d find a 1HU rack device offering 100 - 240V 50/60Hz input and enough power for at least XITE-1, 2 A16U and some other items like (USB-)MIDI interface, controller keyboard, Fadermaster Pro, ext. eSATA HDD and some low power CV-pedals and s##t.
The only I find are for guitarist´s stomp boxes/pedal boards w/ mostly 80/100mA DC outs.
Too many line lumps and walwarts drivin´ me nuts meanwhile.

Re: My A16 Ultra's going to trash..
I have lots of old synths and an A16U. The idea of using a single powersupply sounds good from the mechanical perspective .
From the electrical perspective the power supplies should be completely seperated, to avoid ground loops.
The ideal solution would be a bunch of independent power supplies whithin a single 19' case. I never spotted this until now.

I use 2 of these with my equipment.

Very handy and saves on pwr switch wear and tear. Dont seem to have any ground loops either so maybe i'm just lucky.
btw valis, I have always suspected a weak link in the presonus switches and pwr connections

An AC powersupply is just a transformer within an enclosure.Bud Weiser wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 4:08 pmOriginal or not doesn´t matter.Strictly East wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 2:04 am ... is it the original power supply, if not which power supply do you advise me to use?

To deliver the required voltage during regular load conditions, the transformer's unloaded output voltage is higher than printed specs because voltage will drop under load.
Considering the current difference the S|C and CW A16Us may have different designs.
With a 'bigger' than required PSU internal voltage regulation will have to work harder, which is not a problem, but it will produce more heat and may age (in particular) capacitors faster.
(this does NOT apply to switching PSUs)

I´m pretty sure none of my 2 PSUs for A16U is original,- but both work.astroman wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2020 3:32 pmAn AC powersupply is just a transformer within an enclosure.Bud Weiser wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 4:08 pm

And yes,- the 3.5A one is bulkier and much more heavy.
That´s why I thought about something which might not exist because of not enough customers out there need it.
And if,- it would be special always because of different demands in regards of count of AC- and DC- outlets and their individual voltages and amperes.
It should be some kind of "mainframe" w/ 115/230V AC input, by the user exchangable AC-output- and DC-output modules w/ voltage selectors (6v / 9V / 12V / ...and so on),- the typical stuff needed for DC gear as also the typical for AC gear.
XITE and A16U both use a 12V AC -output,- and ext. drives, USB-MIDI (Keyboard) Controllers nd MIDI interfaces mostly use DC-output.
So, it needed some modularity to satisfy customers,- depending on their setup/rig configuration.
Kind of "eurorack for power distribution" - so to say ...

Re: My A16 Ultra's going to trash..
Thx, looks good for sure,- but A16U and XITE use linelumps w/ AC-output.
We´d need such toy w/ combination of AC-out and DC-out modules.

Re: My A16 Ultra's going to trash..
I've had A16U switch fails in the past, easily repaired/replaced. Currently have one of my unit switches going dodgy, but I now just leave it on - can't remember last time I actually physically switched it off.....will get it repaired when it finally fails
I've also still got a broken A16U unit that whilst it switches on, doesn't lock into anything - I've tried to get repaired in here Australia but no success - even a specialised audio electronics repairer wouldn't touch it - a shame / waste of quality conversion - I bet it's just a component or something
