what are the chances it's an ASB in disguise?

I think the behringer mini is a sperate product, it is not a Roland SE-02. The Roland has presets and no Modular connections.
But many people think exactly that.

Re: Behringers Mini is coming now. Pre-order possible!
And why is the price falling when Behringer is coming up with a new mini for 349€?
This is just the beginning of a price war. Before the time when behringer was apart the synthesizer production all the polyphonic synthesizer were started at 1400€ like the prophet 8.
When behringer came around with a deep mind 12 suddenly the others got out of there sleep, suddenly there was a Roland SE-02 possible for an incredible price and novation came with the Peak, and a REV2-16 got 16 voices!
Behringer kicks the analog synth industry!
Deepmind 12 price is now 849€ and at thomann.de there is a B-Modell for 785€ aviable.
Good times for users! And I am shure, it's also a great time for producers. Good vibes! Happy Christmas and happy new year.

Cept.......those ASB things weren't cheap......and you need a driver on a computer to operate it.
Prob not a huge difference in the sound though, and well built it would seem since there are still quite a few selling

Re: Behringers Mini is coming now. Pre-order possible!
it's super cool, isn't it?
i don't like smd tech since it's not fixable by field techs, but it's pretty cool the way it's being used. when price is the issue, you can't really argue.
however, the thing that was cool about the original synths is that no matter what the spec of the design was, parts tolerances weren't so tight that each unit was identical. just because of the variability of parts, some as much as 20%, some amazingly happy marriages took place. most were the very good product that the product was, but some were just better. a few were a little worse, but were still good. players used to want to play the specific instrument before purchasing, or at least the better players did.
what is unfortunate is that there will be just a bunch of good synths this time around, but probably not any spectacular ones(or kinda bad ones, so there are tradeoffs). smd is too reliably produced. these will be better ordered sight-unseen on the internet than the original. or something.
at that price, why wouldn't somebody who was into synths buy one?

ok - So it is not all super cool after all, even though it is discrete analogue circuitry
I do get your point though about oldschool discrete circuitry. I guess there's still an edge to be found for the real hardcore analogue purists out there

Even though I am equiped with slender piano fingers, I do find the form factor too small.garyb wrote: Mon Dec 18, 2017 10:46 pm

Also, I actually want all the modern "digital" features, like presets and total midi cc (or better) integration with my daw for automation and such - Elektron might finally have gotten it right with the new MKII's including overbridge. A shame I only own a MKI Rytm...
Maybe Soniccore and Elektron overbridge could be a match made in heaven - The XTC-mode of the future?

Yes - The Elektron Rytm is an HW analogue drummachine, but with full integration with your daw through Overbridge. A solution that is XTC-like, but without the use of midi and Asio.
I just thought that, since Soniccore is "like" hardware gear, it might fit well with Overbridge, in case XTC-mode continues to create trouble

I know I'm dreaming, but it is a beautiful dream where you have both XTC-mode and Scope-mode available at the same time on the same system

I made some of the same tests of this video :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pRiUSf_QFw
With Minimax and the results are really not bad at all ! I detected a little difference on the square waveform, though. I'm not sure you'll get much better mini moog sounds with the Berhinger's ! But you'll have the real control surface (in smaller than the mini moog, however...).
