Wich program do you recommend for hard disk recording?
I am looking for a non-emagic hard disk recording program, that runs on a PC, does 24bit recording, and is easy to use for automating CW stuff. Ergonomics is a top issue. The sequenser part (if any) is not of mayor importance. What will you recommend (and please do not flame others opinions - just state your own).

I recently read on CW's tripleDAT forum that there is a new tripleDAT in the works that will run on Win2K. Not yet very clear with this. Check it out.
Here's the excerpt:
"Hi,
in Keyboards Forum is spoken about a new/next triple dat,
it will work under win2k.
how ist the release?? are there more than 16 tracks to pulsar?
regards thomas"
Here's the address he gave me, but it's in German. Still tackling Greek and Russian...
http://forum.keyboards.de/
I'm still waiting for his reply for the exact URL for the post.
Say, when do you start school? I wish you well, Immanuel!
My friend is also going through a correspondent course for theraputical music.
Best regards!

My personal choice is Samplitude 2496, comes with multiband comp, advanced dynamics, object editor, fft filter, room simulator and more all at 32 bit floating point, burn CD's on the fly if you want, the midi editor is not it's strength (I do all mine on Cubase and record into Sam2496, syncs beautifully). A new ver will be out soon which will support asio and other features.
Did I mention you can re-skin the mixer as well
check out the 90 day demo

For straight audio recording nothing beats Protools in my opinion.
However, i've heard that it is'nt very stable on PC and it is 24 tracks only on the LE version.
The stability does of course depend on what PC you have and i think that it probably is wery stable with the right gear.
But since i've heard otherwise i thought it was fair to warn you.

Thank you all so far, I will check out that 90day demo, when I come back from my not too distant 3weeks holydays in Finland. I could not find that trippleDAT thread - are you shure it is not you mentioning your dream so many times, that someone started to believe it?
University starts early September - I do look forward to this new big step.

I can recommend Samplitude 2496 as well, very
good according to stability and editing, but
automation and seqenzing is not optimal.
I´ll mention one thing:plugins consumps only CPU when sound go though it ,brilliant little avantage.
I also use Cubase SX also a very, very good program with top quality sequenzer and pretty good notation.

=more simultaneous tracks recording and playing

=more plugins (you can use sequentially an infinity of plugins on a track: Samplitude load them only where they are applied, and not in the whole song as others sequencers does)
=ergonomy (Samplitude has a particular ergonomy easy to learn and brilliant and quick to use)
=efficacity (the plugins and effects included are high-end class)
=well optimized code: there are practically no bugs and the soft runs quick and smooth
=reliability: in normal use Samplitude never crashes. We can't say the same about Cubase nor Logic. Samplitude is one of the best softwares in all categories for stability.
=MIDI is not at the Logic's level but can do all the essentials and basicals musicals operations: play, record, MIDI files, synchro.
=the best PC software for audio without considerations of price

It was from a German site. I took a peak at it but I can't read German - yet. But, it didn't really say much about Win2K.... I have to ask 'em again... I'll let you know.On 2002-07-04 17:35, Immanuel wrote:

Hope you have a great time at the University! We're rootin' for ya man!
Salut!

Also, have a fun holiday! Take some pics!
My first sequenser was a downgraded version of cubase, now 5 years later im on cubase sx and i have never had any regrets with my choise of sequenser. like most software cubase is very stable on a good computer, ive always had intel machines with good specs and i never have had probs that wasnt my own fault.
in cubase sx the audio part is so well designed, its efficint as the migthy pt. The midi part is also excellent ( not as good as vst 5.1 yet but soon).
if you mostly do accoustic music with live musician you will do fine with an audio only package, but for anything else you will find the need for midi editing.
my only experience with samplitude is with a free version that came with "computer music" and it was very good, tracking and building songs was as easy as possible, but the lack of midi (atleast at that time) put me off.
so i suggest you go with cubase sx its a good mature program with lots of users around the world(more to come now with logic gone). Whatever you like to do with your music im shure cubase can take you there.

Right now I do not feel safe with anything, that Emagic touches
I will try the trial though. It is realy nice to get the chance to legaly test such a huge piece of software before purchasing

I will download it today - that gives me 3months to find out, if I dare to trust this piece of software to stay windows compatible. I would trust them more, if they got another distributor. How can Emagic (Apple) be truly interested in taking their samplitude distributing seriously - it looks atleast dangerous to Samplitude (from the littel knowledge I have) - if not even takingoverish...

Emagic does not program Samplitude. They only has a contract to distribute it. So Apple buying Emagic has no effects on Samplitude.
Samplitude is on the control of Magix.
Samplitude was created by Sek'D, on the Amiga.
I will never use Cubase or Logic to record a live event. Too risky. But I use Samplitude for that, coz it's solid as a rock.
