If this is not true, how come no one has created a JP-6 filter that I asked about about a year ago uh? It's not a joke. People have been trying to emulate the SID for over 10 years, and there's nothing perfect out there yet.

I read a post of you where you said that Novation Supernova has weak oscillators and filters
(compared to Virus and Nord). Perhaps you don't know how to use these correctly.
I have used all these synths and Novation has great sound, osc's and filters.
I have also used Virus C, TI, Nord Lead 3, Nord Modular. All have fine digital filters.

I can model such a filter in the sdk, (also in the modular).

It just needs experience and know-how.
You can't imagine how much stuff can be done with straight signal processing.

About the SID, what to say? If you study the waveform you will see there is nothing special.
It uses a form of phase distortion.

Tom's fine, but he doesn't really know what can or can't be done, yet he's stating opinions as fact. he doesn't have the SDK or a card or an XITE. there's no point in his arguing with fra77 or vice-versa. this thread was started by faxi because he wants to make some things that people might want. really, there should be suggestions or crickets, but we all like to get off-topic. that's also cool, but let's stop that before it gets out of hand.

i'd just like to see something positive.

personally, what i've always needed is a meterbridge that could use between 16 and 128 sources. the stock meterbridge is limited in it's assignments, though i suppose i could use multiple devices. what i hate about it is if you assign the first meter bank to a mixer and then assign the second bank to the mixer, the numbering doesn't continue from where the first bank left off, instead it meters the exact same sources, so that there are connections that never get metered. it's not a big desire or a glamorous project...

Yes, I did have the SDK. No, couldn't do even a simple, actual DX7 emulation with it. So I bought the real thing.

@ fra77- no, that's only 16 channels. check out the stock meterbridge. it's assignable, it doesn't need to be wired, but it's no good for a mixer because of the way the assignments work. otherwise, it's perfect.

@ Tom-thanks. i think it takes a little longer than a few days to say what can or cannot be done in SDK. i agree, though. if you want a DX-7, you need a DX-7. there are a lot of them and they're cheap. it also takes a DX-7 to model a DX-7 properly. memory won't do. in any case, what makes a DX-7 hard to model in SDK has nothing to do with the filters.

but enough about DX-7s. please use this thread for positive suggestions of things you'd like to see in Scope. i realize that there really are a lot of tools already, but i know there are more that would be cool. a good harmonizer/chorder/pitch shifter would be cool, especially with a recirculating delay added. i can make this in hardware and my Lexicon LXP can do some of it, but a integrated plugin would be nifty.

Unfortunately i haven't used the stock meterbridge. Anyway i quickly made the sdk module with assignable numbering.
You have to connect it manually though.

If you don't find it useful delete it.

About the possibilities of the sdk and the "dx-7" of course the discussion is not serious.
A DFM engine is perfectly feasible, but one should design the sine oscillators from scratch
because there is no sine oscillator stock atom with phase modulation.

I have done it. Of course i made it in 2015 which means 10 years after i started using the sdk.

The Fm oscillators of the sdk and the modular are very good and the timbres created with FM and DFM are pretty close.


About the " a good harmonizer/chorder/pitch shifter would be cool".
My opinion is that a pitch shifter algo to work right is not an easy job.
I have created such a device but unfortunately i can't share it for free.

Anyway, i read in some other post that there are not adequate envelopes "to use for the non ADSR modules of the dx-7"
this is not true:

a. There are multistage envelopes. 128 stages + repeat function.
b. One can make different contour modulators by using more than one envelopes or mix it with lfo's etc. It's modular.
c. There is a Ramp generator in the sdk, it can be used to create the different parts of a custom envelope.
d. One can make envelopes with Async modules as i have demonstrated in the past,
an unreleased version of VOID2 offered two ADSTR envelopes. T(ime) was a parameter that affected the sustain stage,
and made it gradually rise or fade with slope defined by the T parameter

But truly, the main part of an FM synthesis engine is the fm synthesis capability, be it FM or DFM,
the amount of operators, the connections i.e. "algorithms" between those. The modulators, are not really crucial.
Fm synthesis is a very powerful way of digital synthesis because it creates organic and rich timbres.
Lately i created a "nordlead3" fm synthesis engine with 4 operators, i.e. 2x2 sines an octave apart and 3 amounts of fm index. 1*2, 3*4, 1_2*3_4.
The sound is the same with the nordlead3 as i have the instrument.

I insist, working digital synthesis without an oscilloscope is a nightmare.

i think some of you here are looking at this whole thing in a very strange and wrong way. who cares if you can emulate 1:1 exactly X filter? Scope is an amazing platform with its own core sound and core workflow both in the user and developer experience.

in one of our devices we have a flawed "supersaw" osc. it mimic's everything except one characteristic of the roland supersaw. is it as "good"? is it an "exact emulation"? who cares?!?!?!? its a beautiful machine for the scope family!

the question should be - does it sound cool, is it fun to use, is it making interesting use of the scope platform, does it add flavors and tones to the platform, and are you getting actual work(music) done with it?

Can I get a PitchShifter which can PitchShift each partial individually to detune the signal with four mod inputs, X,Y, 2X, 2Y. All partials below X are shifted according to Y and all partials above 2X are shifted according to 2Y

Check out GOST Dynomic (part of his Harmonic Effect bundle). It will detect the fundamental of a note, then have several controls for each Harmonic. You can use a pitch shifter on any given Harmonic, as you see fit (or other effect).
