There are days.....
When I'm using Pulsar/tripleDAT and everything works wonderfully and then other days when I want to hit my PC with a sledgehammer.
The other day I had a client in recording a 2 hour radio show and being the daredevil that I am, I decided to just hit record and let the thing go. 2 hours later we were done. We edited. We mixed. We mastered. And the client left happy. I expected smoke to come pouring out but it didn't.
Creamware: I luv ya man (on most days)! Thanks!

Thanks for the high 5 guys. Too often we rant and rave (myself included). I think it's important to tell about successes also. My recording business is growing steadily and I can thank Creamware for some really cool products.
I don't know if this is really of any interest to anyone here but a sample of one of the radio shows I produced here can be found at http://www.saibaba.org/saivani/saivani.html
It is an Indian religious show being broadcast here in the U.S.
I don't understand Hindu but half of the show is in English, the other half in Hindu.
I call this bread & butter work
Pretty easy to put together - although you still need to pay attention to detail. Recorded, mixed and mastered with Pulsar/tripleDAT.
Things used .....
There were two narrarators. They sat at a small folding table facing each other. I put a single AKG 414 mic between them in figure 8 pattern. No pop filter, just the foam windscreen.
Mic ran through a JoeMeek VC1Qcs mic preamp - no compression or eq.
From preamp into A16 ultra and into Pulsar
Used Bigmixer to mix vox and pre-recorded music ripped from CD's and cassette tapes.
Used Level Devil on vox track in limiter mode to smooth out vocal track.
Used Master Reverb Pro for a little ambience (I love that new Pro reverb)
Used Optimaster to master to stereo.
Burned CD in tripleDAT.
Most of the editing work in 3DAT involved arranging the music segments and editing out long pauses in the narraration (or coughs, farts, whatever).

Okay, i´m outing myself right now.
I´m a bit weak-hearted and a high blood-pressure guy that sometimes can´t take some more frustrations. This sledgehammer idea wasn´t very far away in at least three occassions. And i mean it (one 15" monitor can fly up to 6 meters before hitting the wall). I want to offend noone here, almost everyone here seems to be a really nice guy. But give me your true opinion please.
Do you believe this Platform will ever be in the near future as good as bug free ?
I KNOW that a lot of you ARE working with it.
But i cannot. Almost every time i take a serious sitting in order to configure my system exactly like i want it to have i´m noticing a new bug - yes, REAL bugs, no usererrors. I pick up the phone, call CW, tell them about it. Some of these errors are known to the technikis there, but the most aren´t too easy to track down. But i haven´´t got just one thing that turned out to be a system or user error. Slowly i´m asking myself if SFP and me will ever be good friends - to be honest - i doubt it, and the urge to sell my card and get me pure hardware is very strong. Please anyone convince me that i´m wrong and just have to drink less coffee!
PS: Sorry for this - but i had to say this. I can´t afford a psychiatrist - i´ve spent all my money for CW stuff

I can see positives and negatives regarding SFP. I have found SFP to be rock-solid so far - no unexplained crashes or sound drop-outs.
I have been using SFP to record into cubase. I don't know if it's my imagination or not, but the ULLI seems to be better in SFP than it was in 3.0.1.
Apart from that, I have to say that SFP doesn't offer me any convenience since Creamware dropped the "background" application.
Auto-routing doesn't work for me because I have to use a midi-merger in my projects.... no option to auto connect to a midi-merger... only seq source or midi source.
I'll continue to keep both versions on my hard drive until I can reliably switch to a version of SFP.

it's always in backround mode(sorta).
with hardware you must still be an engineer to get good results.there is much to learn, period.the proper parts in the proper machine work wonders.you wouldn't haul concrete with a sports car or run a curvy road with a dumptruck.it's only $1-200.00 price difference between a good system and junk.fortunately, people will share thier experience so you can learn from thier mistakes.

It works pretty much bug free here. The background mode is still there. (and more convenient in this way actually).
As for the pure hardware...well my Nord also craches every so often...
Well, if you notice any more bugs, post them here and maybe other people may be able to help out. CW tech-support has never been known for it's outstanding quality I believe..

At the risk of going OT, try get SFP to actually load your "StartProject.pro" from, umm.. when it starts up. No?... your "NewProject.pro" loaded by default did it?
OK... so now select "Startup" from the livebar's file menu..... great, but now try loading a new project... oh, I can't did I hear you say?....
I know I could easily just make my default project "NewProject.pro" my Startup or background project , stick SFP in the background and move on.... but what is the point of having the option to save one project as Default and the other as Startup when they obviously don't work the way they should, like they did in 3.0.1?
I know it's all rubbish to anyone that didn't utilise the background app in 3.0.1, but basically... it doesn't (sorta) work and in fact... doesn't exist in SFP3.1a

Sorry, but mine is working correctly here, like it was, and like it should. At startup, it load startup.pro, if i click 'show' in the tray-icon, i see my startup.pro. If i go in the file menu (in that startup.pro) and i click new, i get my newproject.pro. Then again, if i click 'startup' in the file menu, i again get the startup.pro. What's the problem?

garyb I have nothing against your brackets. Why can't you just accept that it doesn't work and if someone can show me how it does work (on a Macintosh) then great.... but don't just prattle on about brackets.wha? whats the difference?(no disrespect intended)(even if you don't[sorta] like my brackets!)

Umm, which part of my post didn't you understand. Mine doesn't work, the way you have just outlined, which is pretty much the way it should workOn 2002-06-18 18:16, marcuspocus wrote:

I should have metioned that I'm on a Mac and it doesn't come with little tray-icons or an application that auto-launches SFP.
Even if I put an alias to SFP in my startup items in my system folder, it still loads the Default (NewProject.pro).... end of story.
I didn't post my findings here to enter into bulls!@# arguments with people. I'm just stating that this feature, for me, doesn't work.. and to date...noone has told me how it can work. Instead, I get "who cares", "what's your problem" etc etc.
Well, basically, I don't care much anymore, I found a workaround and stated it.

Ok then, sorry, but since i didn't know your where on mac, i couldn't guess. Well, then i guess mac have a problem there!
Again, sorry if i sounded that way, but most of the times, when people tell bugs, they usually just have a simple misunderstanding on how it work. Don't seem like this is the case here. Sorry of being of no help.

marcuspocus,
thank you and sorry for getting upset. I've been using Pulsar for almost 2 years and I couldn't be without it. I love it.
I had and still have Pulsar sotware v3.0.1 setup and running exactly as I want it to and would just like to be able to do the same with SFP.
Here's just a bit of background to explain why I have been boringly complaining about this small inconvenience.
I rely totally on the Pulsar card for all my I/O work - my Mac (Quicksilver 867) doesn't have any audio in..and in any case, I prefer to do all my recording at 24 bit which the Mac's audio card doesn't support.
I just have a simple startup project that, under 3.0.1 and previous, used to load in the background every time I booted up the Mac. This project just sat there out of the way and gave me access to the Pulsar's Audio I/O for EVERY Audio application that I chose to run...perfect for if I just wanted to work with Audio and VSTi's in Cubase... etc etc ...
If I decided that I'd like to run some Pulsar synths or effects etc, it was just a matter of choosing "Launch Pulsar" from a little dropdown menu and it would load up with a more DSP hungry default project... otherwise, I didn't have to do anything... I had it set up as if the Pulsar was the Mac's own audio card... very convenient for the way I work.
I thought I should mention that my monitors have both SPDIF and analog inputs, so I have the output of the Mac's card going into the analog and the output of Pulsar going into the SPDIF, that way I can hear both SoundManager apps as well as ASIO apps...
That's all I'm complaining about. I'm a creature of habit, as most of us humans are. All it amounts to is just a little more fussing about and loading and quitting SFP....etc etc. If I could boot my Mac and auto initialise the Pulsar via SFP and then then be able to just swap into a new project as easily as I could before... I'd be content and stop whining
