luna 2496
hey guys can i use the 2496 breakout box with a pulsar 2. if so what else do i need to purchase with the 2496 to make it work. i bought a pulsar 2 classic.
secondly if i got a luna 2 with the 2496 what esle would i need to make the luna and pulsar 2 work together so i can up my sharcs and get some i/0's.
the answer to this would probably answer my first question but does the 2496 have those adat connectors on the back so i could plug it into the pulsar 2 without needing anything else.

If your Pulsar has the Zlink (firewire) socket it will be OK. The 2496 does not have any other connectors other than the 8in 8 out and its Zlink connection. I'm not sure if you get a Luna whether you will need an extra cable to link it to your pulsar. But they will work together and expand your system. I am trying to sell an Elektra and 2496 at the moment, I want to upgrade to a pulsar and use ADAT with a digital mixer. I want around £520 for the pair. The quality of the breakout box is great. Hope that answers some of your questions. The creamware website is so confusing when you try to work out what works with what and what you need to do it. I sure if it was easier to navigate they would sell more.

Boy you got that right! And the manuals aren't much better. Neither are the sales brochures.
So to answer the other question:
In order to use the 2496 with Pulsar, you will need to replace the classic I/O card with the ZLink I/O option or else add Luna card and STDM cable. Luna by itself only supports one 2496 box. If you wanted to add another 2496 to Luna you would have to buy the optional Luna I/O board to get a second ZLink port. This optional board requires additional PS connection because the PCI buss apparently can't produce enough power to power two 2496 boxes.
I'm not sure if the same thing applies to Pulsar with the ZLink option I/O. It would seem to me if you can't power two 2496's with Luna, you probably can't with Pulsar either. But since most modern PS's have plenty of avaliable cable connections, this shouldn't be an issue. It wasn't for me. The 2496's are nice units. I'm almost sorry I sold mine but I do like my A16 Ultra.

As stated previously, any Creamware cards with a Z-Link port can use this I/O box.
On a Luna, if you add the Luna ADAT Expansion, which comes with an additionnal Z-link port, you'll have no problems using two 2496 I/O box.
This simple I/O plate can make the lowly Luna a real I/O powerhouse. It adds 4 ADAT and 1 Z-link port. It also has a host connector for the Sync Plate.

Hi Red Sun
Are you syre that it adds 4 ADATs I think it maybe only 2. But then again the info on creamwares site is poor. Is there anyway that lists what can be used with what and the specifications?
Cheers
