I tried to connect unbalanced line level (-10 dBV) signals to the analogue XLR connections on the back of the XITE-1 using a converter cable XLR to unbalanced jack. But the level difference is to high. Would a +4 to -10 converter box help? I found this one:

sure it would.

I also found a passive version:

What's the disadvantage when compared to an active version (other that the lack of extra gain)?

Re: Connecting unbalanced line level (-10 dBV) signals
well, transformer vs. ic.
for this purpose, i'd probably want the active one, because it will add gain when going from -20 to +4. i don't know if a passive box can do that. if it can, then either is fine. it's hard to say which would be more transparent.

Re: Connecting unbalanced line level (-10 dBV) signals
I purchased a Sonifex Redbox RB-BL2 which has plenty of gain. Problem solved
