From the CW forum:
think modelling vintage gear for creamware would definately boost creamware
sales cos i'm now thinking of buying an universal audio uad-1 and not a extra
srb for my DAW. Something like modelled vintage compressors eq's and
echo/effects would be very nice.........
this is great news.
gives me faith.
if its something close to waves, bombfactory and other protools plugs then cw will be a contender in the big leauge.
2 maybe 4...6 sharcs.. i dont know.
But one thing for shure ill never invite you to a party at my home, you seem determined to ruin everyones fun.
hehe
you cant compare a pulsar in power with uad1 or powercore, youll have to think scope.
ill save you the time of replaying "scope is much more expensive".
Ill answear that right away
scope is also a pro quality soundcard with alot more flexibility. with pro plugs it would be up compeating with the best audio systems availible today. Systems that again are even more expensive than scope.
someone once told me "i still see new things in life". so open your eyes and explore your cw cards to the fullest and youll be making music in sfp heaven with the rest of us in no time.
its all about how you use it.

As the release is very near anyway, I will tell you more details:
We modelled a well-known analog vintage compressor (you might guess which) as a SFP device. Sound and look is like the original, but with some additional features.
Huh? Did I miss something? There are already some vintage modeled devices out there. Maybe, more than a few. For sure, a good example is the Level-Devil (compressor/limiter).
I must admit, I´m a bit surprised...
Because to model those units which have been already modelled so often, is a great challenge I think.
What I would like to see is a
"Fairchild 660" as a
"multiband-linear phase-silverline-audiophile-manipulator-finalizer-destractor" (with a built in stereo spreader btw)
No, I think that´s a strategically clever move from CW that will probably boost sales numbers...
Damn, now I'll have to wait and hear what this compressor does (and how much it costs!) before going out and buying the timeworks. It looks like it might get some competition.
Vintage modelling is good IMO in that vintage gear has proven it's quality and usability, so if your model approaches it in some way, you know users will like it.
I hope they have some more original stuff in the pipeline too. (some NI style products for SFP would be nice, and then I don't mean the vintage ones! )
It sounds like whatever you said is right but it doesn't really matter. I'm not in love with pulsar and i'm not plainning to buy DSPs like many others said (only when the DSPhardware drop to reasonable price) but I will keep using it because i'm used to it and because the finacial issuses so i will use what I have to make music.
I just find people fantasizing all the time are bothering me, especially in Korg Oasys, UAD-1, and creamware fourms.
I find those people are having too much time to waste instead of making music.
Sorry for ruin the fun.

But, because I'am an artist and childish minded, I always like to dream and waiste time.
So long I dreamed and then came Pulsar; it has gave me the feelings of my dreams becoming true (the marketing work was perfect); I know SFP 3.1 is great and near to perfection, it will be a perfection soon.
-You get gear that was nearly un-payable in the past..
-Sales numbers will be boosted, which leads to more money for development...
-You will be able to colour and shape your mix...
-Not having the right front-end won´t be such a deficit anymore...
But honestly, I think the more someone is into recording, the more he will acknowledge the importance of gear. Vintage gear has the characteristic of warming-up/coloring something. What to do? when you have to record a person whith a thin sounding voice? You have to do something! And please don´t tell me you will boost 130-200hz, which CAN increase fullness to vocals, but when done too often will add mudiness to the whole mix. Boosting any fundamentals would lead to "indistinction" in the case of instruments playing the same part, because they are closer to "sounding the same". So an "alternative" to boosting warm freqs would be simply using vintage gear. That´s the reasom why people are soo after those Neve 1272´s although they are a little fragile. But I must admit, that it´s all also a matter of taste and depends on things like track-count... The larger the trackcount the sooner you will need that type of gear, because you can´t boost the warm freqs on every track. Although I haven´t got the UAD-1 I understand why people decide to take the plunge.
BTW, what I would really like to see is a "tape simulator" whith the real characteristics (not only the sound) of a Studer or Revox, but whithout the phase-shift.
