Hi,
during reinstall of the card I mistakely broke off the 47u capacitor on my 6 DSP pulsar2 board. See red circle. Exactly spoken from the I/O-card.
What is this capacitor for? What happens if it is mssing?
The "funny" thing is, that I realized that this capacitor is missing on my 14 DSP scope card, too. I never break it myself. The previous owner sold me the card without it. The card worked for more than 6 years now ...

Ok. Then I don't risk damage during soldering. (I can solder, even SMD, but you never know)garyb wrote:redundant.

if you can solder and know the correct position(polarity) of the leads, then put it back on.
i believe it's to buffer the grounding on the card. it keeps the card's power quiet. there are a whole bunch of those caps, multiples for each dsp.

its a bypass cap they are used to keep any spikes of voltages from the regulators as the capacitor
sinks it and gives a constant dc no ripple
bypass caps are also used as noise prevention when stray hum happens by adding a bypass cap it adds a good path to ground
they are not needed in most places but are put there as a precaution
