Sync Card BNC wordclock
Sync Card BNC wordclock
Hi,
I've got a sync card (thankfully)- for the PCI cards (Scope Pro/Pulsar 2/Power Sampler - I need a cable though (10 pin) because one wasn't provided by the seller of the card-
Which cable do I need for this?-
Thanks

Re: Sync Card BNC wordclock
the 10pin is for connecting to an ADAT machine. you should use the bnc connections.
Re: Sync Card BNC wordclock
Gary,
OK The BNC get connected to other gear like wordclock master clock
But the phsysical connection of the sync card to the other PCI cards that are cascaded via STDM?-
There is a sync plate connector on the ADAT expansion plate for the Power Sampler (Scope Home 3 DSP)
There is the same on the Pulsar 2 (Scope Project 6 DSP)-I've just seen a picture of it.
Presumably there is the same on Scope Pro (15 DSP)-
There is a corresponding connection on the sync card-LOL----
EDIT_***there are also 9 pin connectors either side of the BNC connectors on the sync card for ADAT sync I/O

Re: Sync Card BNC wordclock
I see what you say Gary------about the 10 pin cable on each side of the BNC connectors on the sync card but there is a physical connection needed from the PCI cards (one of them at least) to the sync plate-------I'm sure of it
then after that are the 10 pin either side of the BNC connectors which are for the ADAT machines-----

Re: Sync Card BNC wordclock
The ADAT sync in & out are 9 pin
Re: Sync Card BNC wordclock
Gary is right - that connector is called Adat-Sync (to link Adats and their remote controllers)
it's a serial cable for RS232 signals from IT-stoneage...
I use one to control VDAT with a physical Alesis BRC Controller, that's about it's only use today imho...
but the stuff is extremely sensitive to sync issues, both from software and cable
since BRCs are dead cheap today it's worth a try for the adventurous, but be prepared to study the BRC manual from front to back...
(probably 2 times...)
Creamware really did a brilliant job with their virtual VRC, it's a perfect emulation (as I've already mentioned once)
anyway - for my part I installed Scope on a Win98 System and even went back to Scope 3.1 for that recording setup
don't have much time recently but this seems to work best (it's as close to the developement time you can get)
any 'new' stuff seems more or less disturbing
IF one gets it running it's a really smart system for tracking with VDAT
the BRC allows instant access to tracks of several projects without a single 'open-file' dialog
setting markers to song position on the fly is also quite convenient - and totally old fasioned as well...
cheers, Tom

Re: Sync Card BNC wordclock
OK Astroman thats great to read that stuff-
If Gary is right thats great (I'm just asking)
The 9 pin connectors either side of the BNC connectors are for ADAT syncs you've just described-???- =it's a serial cable for RS232-I've looked it up
I'm asking about the "sync plate connectors"-which is a 10 pin- which is 2 rows of 5-
Then there are the BNC which I need for word clock (thats fine)

Re: Sync Card BNC wordclock
sorry - I thought the 10 pin was just a typo
the flat ribbon cable that connects the plate to the Scope card is just what it is
on my card there's just one of it and there's only one possible connection on the Scope card...
hope you're not talking about an RME card, do you ?
cheers, Tom

Re: Sync Card BNC wordclock
Astroman,
I am talking about Scope Pro / Pulsar 2 / Power Sampler with ADAT expansion- There are options for the sync plate so any of my PCI cards will make the connection (10 pin 2 rows of 5) I read elsewhere on Planet Z and does an IDC cable make sense to you?-
I don't need a special Creamware / Sonic Core cable do I?-
I've found something that looks like its corrct-

Re: Sync Card BNC wordclock
shure you can use that - nothing special with that thing
cheers, Tom

Re: Sync Card BNC wordclock
OK Tom,
It may be nothing special but I need something like that and I don't have at the moment but a 6" IDC and 12" IDC is on the way-
How long is yours- (that sounds awful)-
- but you get the idea-
How long is the longest IDC that people use here?
Just imagining how crammed inside the case all the cards will be if they are all installed- gee it could be done possibly-but it'll be tight-
Scope Pro / Pulsar 2 / Power Sampler & ADAT expansion card & Sync card-we'll see

Re: Sync Card BNC wordclock
to be honest... the cable is longer...
but it's not an uncommon part - you might find them in the trash box of a PC supplier
or cut one from an old floppy cable or similiar...
if you heat a blade over a candle you can simply push through the connector with no effort
it's easy because the knife will follow the holes and that leaves enough material
(clean with sandpaper for fingernails)
cheers, Tom

Re: Sync Card BNC wordclock
OK Tom so if I needed one that was longer than six inches (6")(150mm) or twelve inches (12")(300mm)-I could get someone to make one up?- or ask a computer professional to source one?
If one was 3 feet long for example would the data transfer easily without problems?-
12" should be enough I hope

Re: Sync Card BNC wordclock
you lost the original?
yeah, it's just a standard cable. you only need one.

Re: Sync Card BNC wordclock
I only bought the sync card a few months ago-and the person who sold me the card didn't supply a cable!-So I've ordered one!-garyb wrote:you lost the original?

I hope the card works when I get round to fitting it-
