Has Sonic Core somehow changed my power settings because my computer did not switch off and was running at full power.

for real time use power saving should be turned of in bios
so if you want your machine to turn off you need to do it manually
the reason for this you dont want any part of the system to power down while using the realtime synths or mixers other wise you would get glitches

if you followed garyb bios setting for optimal use of the scope system then it wont power down automatically as its switched of

Hi jhulk, it was actually due to windows media player being left on after watching Star Wars cartoon
so i changed that setting. There might be glitches, we will see but at this stage my default project only has mixer channels included and one hardware output (s/pdif) which is used for all my projects. Cheers
