Creamware PCI System

Post by fraz »

Hi,

I'm just trying to work out fitting all the cards into one chassis-It looks like I've found a sync card for the Creamware PCI series.

In total there will be 3 x PCI cards - Scope Pro-Pulsar 2 & Power Sampler with ADAT expansion plate & a sync card-

Housing the 3 PCI cards isn't a problem- but the ADAT expansion plate may be a problem as it may need to dangle outside the chassis-and the sync card doesn't actually fit into the motherboard does it?-Sure it connects to the Pulsar 2 or Scope Pro via a cable but where it rests I'm not so sure.

My 4U Rack chassis isn't with me currently so I can't view it but I do know its going to pose a problem or two-
Any bright ideas from planet-???- :) ...its mainly a workaround for the ADAT expansion plate and sync card-either both or just one of them-so that everything is housed and covered up-

If the ADAT expansion plate which is small is outside the chassis is there a casing I could put it in that would protect it?
and maybe the same for the sync card?

i always thought the expansion plates fit onto the pci card

my 3 15 dsp cards were boosters and i took of the pulsa2 adat/dsub plate from a pulsa 2 and fitted it to the 15 dsp card

so that the pulsa 2 was the 6dsp booster

your case just needs to have room for a couple of extra slots. the syncplate and expansion plate use the case's spaces for expansion cards, but not a slot on the motherboard(they'll cover the space for a slot, though).

yes i have one of those on my emu sound card it has an expansion card that has a cable to the main card and does take up a back plate slot

so just make sure you use the first 3pci slots and then nothing in the other slots as you need them for your adat and sync plates

same here: The RME expansion card needs a slot on it's own, with a cable to the main card.
On Scope I have two expansion cards mounted on 'main' cards, they don't take the room of an extra slot.

power sampler adat is an extra plate via a cable as is the clock plate for any dsp card

as the power sampler has the same connections as the luna z link and 1/4" phono the adat plate was an accessory expansion that gave adats as well as the zlink giving more i/o connectivity

I have 3 cards, and there was f##king tight, no space between, warming up to deadh each other I fist used an extra fan, then I got a flash in my brain - a riser card solved the space problem!

use a riser card! Live can be sooooo easy :x

get a longer cable for your sync card, I have one too.....

A longer cable for the sync card? - Where do you get these from? - My sync card isn't here yet but will be within a week or two!

I had a lot of luck, I found my cable in an old 1978 GEM Organ electronics, I pulled it out and stick it into my sync card.

It is not a very special cable, you will be able ti find one with luck.

I know I killed my organ, but the sync works :D

ohhh you see, it is an idc cable, no need to kill the whole vintage Organ for a little bit syncronisation! . Not difficult to find a substitude.

My cable is now 36 years old, working still today 2014! :D but organ is dead. . . only sleeping
