hi i use the 02r only for routing, and as premixer, sometimes it is useful to have knobs and sliders in your hand. Old mature studioequipment reminds me to my young days. No need to change everything every year. A lot people sell there equipment, and years after they cry, because the new thing isnt better. Remember the vst-story above, irs like mine, first say goodbye to creamware, saying hallo to the polyphony vst world, and after years, you return back to sonic core. I had a sequential cicurits 600 and a siel Kiwi and a roland sh 1000 and a korg ms 20 all sold, because i thought the vst could do it better. What an ERROR in my brain! Today I could be rich of golden analog sounds. Same with my guitaramp. I sold a 1969 fender, Marshall 800 because I believed it is easier to record with ni guitarrig. How stupid I was, didnt notice the bad sound, until I tried my last marshall 9000 standing in my basement, the sun was rising!
I learned, never sell your equipment, its better. Ok year after year, it gets a little bit more, but his slows down, because you have to much equipment. When you sell, the money is pissing of to fast.

old equipmend is good

Re: old equipmend is good
I once sold my old 2ndh. TB303, when almost every track around used it, and made good mony of it.
I don't regret it really, but from my current perspective I would (have) kept it.
Scope synths save us from the VSTi 'misstep'

Re: old equipmend is good
That's a sad and painful story (MS20
)
13 years ago, we also sold nice machines I regret now (like Roland R8, Akai S950, Akai S3000XL, Roland JV1080) but you'll learn from these experiences.
2 years later I needed money to pay bills and a friend suggested to sell the Yamaha 02R's because you could get a good price for two 02Rv2 mixers in those days, but I refused and rejected that (good intended) idea.
In my mind it felt like "money down the drain, and no funtionality left".
Until today I am very happy I made that decision that day (still have the Yamaha's
)
I think Anabella has a good point here.
Keep your gear or you might be crying some day
Newer gear/technology is not guaranteed to be better!

I got the bass in my avatar when i was 18 - and after 31 years of radically fluctuating income derived from this thing, a tuba and a double bass, never once considered selling any. Just lucky I scraped through many times I suppose, never had to hock the axe as something would always pop up.
I actually don't know how i would react if any of these 3 particular instruments were not there one day. They're like body parts!

Ain't that the truth. This is my favorite thing about Scope, routing in external hardware.
New and old actually.
I never sold my PCM70 although everything else from the 80s is long gone, like my Oberheims, as they bought my cards and the XITE-1.
Even dumped the PCM90 once the analog I/Os from the XITE-1 breathed new life into the old beasts connectivity.
That reverb just walks all over DSP and Native still, and it's so old, when you load a preset, it takes a second, which is a lifetime in the audio world these days. But I just leave the same preset on, and control the wet/dry mix from Solaris ModWheel. Swapping it's LFO Modulation and Filter sweep capabilities with the sensative/precise aftertouch aspects of the keybed.

I still have my Mackie SRM450's. I don't think I should sell .. I mean, PA's don't really become obsolete do they ?
Re: old equipmend is good
Been telling folks that want to sink in 500 USD for last century technology from AKG or Sennheiser headphones, to just go wireless and lose the handcuffing coiled cables.
IEMs are excellent for mixing, performing and with 6 way drives much more accurate than the one size fits all headphones. You even get custom ear molds, and drivers are tweaked based on the individuals naturally occuring 4k notch.
But they are pricey, so eventually I knew wireless headphones of decent quality would make it to the scene.
At CES this week there are way more designer headphones than Motherboards and CPUs.
More SSDs, and a massive array of wearable connectivity.
The Silent Disco days are upon us, and it sure looks like fun. More people will suffer hearing loss at an earlier age, but who will you sue 30 or 40 years from now...?

Re: old equipmend is good
here you can't get ear damage at a silent disco.
The volume is just, eh, just.
Rules for commercial (or public) activities...

Re: old equipmend is good
"silent disco" because you can't hear the music that they dance to(wihthout headphones of your own connected to their source). yes, nothing does more hearing damage than headphones(except maybe dynamite). since you quickly get used to whatever volume level you are using, a little louder doesn't seem so extremely loud, expecially when the rest of your body isn't being shaken. soon you're at dangerous levels, if you like it loud and if the transducer can deliver...

Very tempting and absolutely killing for your ears
