2 years ago I had a Pulsar 1 and wanted more DSP's. (who doesn't?) Inspired by the "Scope compatible" logo on the Pulsar-box and everybody telling me that Creamware DSP-cards are compatible with eachother, so that I could just place another one next to it, I sold my grandmother's widescreen television, and didn't pay my phonebills for a few months so I had enough money to buy s Scope SRB. (at that time 2836€ in NL) I had to wait 4 months for it, because they were just making a new Scope that would fit in a Mac too (I don't care, I have a pc) and they didn't sell the old ones anymore. Ok, I got it & placed it next to my Pulsar. First slowly loading a synth.. a mixer.. another synth, some filters.. wow, the 18 DSP-load window looked so great. (even in version 3.1 hte DSP-load window shows only 14 dsp's, why is that?) Then I increased a bluesynth's voices to 16 and: Bang! an error appeared. "communication error".. Restarting, reloading, repositioning, optimizing, I've tried more combinations than there are illegal drugsdealers in the centre of Amsterdam (& that's a lot!!) First starting with increasing memory from 128 to 256 to 512, then a faster harddrive, new cables, an entire new motherboard with cpu, a new harddrive, new videocard, different software OS's, 98/me/XP, different sequensers, pulsar v1.2 till 3.0. Now I found a working combination: I sold the Pulsar 1 and bought an IO-plate for that money. That went really quickly, I only had to wait 2 months for the IO-plate, cause I had to send the Scope SRB to germany so they could test it and place it themselves. Ofcourse I pay the shipment costs, afterall I was dumm enough to buy the card. As you know, without the original Pulsar 1 card, the Pulsar software doesn't run, I needed a 42-key for the Scope. "That's another 300€ sir." This was certainly not the happiest day of my life. A friendly dealer helped me out and threatened the Creamware guys with a green bigfoot DSP-card eating monster, to give me a free license. They were so scared that they decided to give me a free license, only if I would buy the Propack too, for the full price. After all this trouble I was so incredibly happy, I just couldn't resist this fantastic offer. Thank you guys!! Thanks a lot! After all I have an IO-plate for the price of a new Pulsar 1.. Yeah baby! And ofcourse I have this completely renewed computer. Soo, this was a very educational way to find out a Pulsar1 & a Scope SRB are NOT working together! Total thrown away-costs for computer parts & pulsar selling: over €2000!!
Imagine how many tv's for granny & microwave's for dad I could've bought from this..
Now it works though. I didn't have any errors/problems/crashes/depressions since! Only how am I gonna pay those phonebills...
Bad Creamware Story
That´s a good example for their websites not representing the whole truth!! And one should not sugar-coat that. Although I seem to have none of your problems, I see too many people that were treated the same way. And I guess there is even a larger number of users that don´t post their bad stories...
As for the SRB deal..
When you purchase a product for a particular reason (in your case to connect it to your Pulsar 1) and the compbination doesn´t work, you have the right to give that product back! Also when you buy a hard-disk or something that is not compatible to your currently existing setup, you again can give that item back.
But honestly I hope your new setup will work as you expected it to work!
Good luck!
