The different panning modes have been in Cubase for many years, so it would be hard to miss them tbh. They were certainly on the old SX2 I used to use. Must admit, I didn't know about the double click to bring up the larger floating panner box!
Another hidden panning thing I used to use in SX2 was that there was no audio effect called "auto pan", but you could use the Modulation effect called "Symphonic" to get auto pan effects.

I found some of it no longer is implemented in Cubase 7.
