a old pci based card sound isn't better than the new xite which is a pcie card...
is that because of pci/pcie?... or ad/da converter or both?
thanks

Re: pci vs pcie
Pcie is just a serial/faster version of pci. It's the same basic protocol, so they're more the same than different.
The xite does have newer converters, although most of the I/O is in slink, adat, and aes/ebu, which are exactly the same as they are in the old cards.
Xite mostly provides more horsepower at the dsps, which might allow you to run at a higher sample rate, and get better sound through that.

Re: pci vs pcie
the XITE's dsps and analog circuitry are also outside the computer which is a world of EMF. the XITE sounds much better than the cards.
Re: pci vs pcie
so pci/pcie cards are nothing to do with the quality of sound?

Re: pci vs pcie
If you're comparing to other sound cards, like USB or Firewire...PCIe has much better performance = lower latency and more channels.
but the sound is the same from pci to pcie.
Also like garyb said, the xite id external, which means it is outside the computer and the converters/conversion will have less noise.
