I think that the song does it, it’s cool, but her voice is over processed to my likes, losing beauty, I would like to appreciate it better, just my impression :)

Nice song for this genre.
Well done.

Yeah maybe less doubling or harmonizing the vocal all the way through the song?
Let it build.
Maybe try some negative feedback

But what do I know?

This is a really, really great song. The bridge was unexpected and a nice surprise. I liked everything the way it is. I’d probably like remix better, as this would be the radio or album version, but that’s just the old DJ in me. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for feedback all. Yes, I could try cutting the vocal auto-tune doubling during the verses, to make more natural.

In the chorus I need it for generating the upper harmony, as the singer didn't actually sing that high.

Yea, that's what I thought, during the verses a natural voice would increment the impact, and her voice has a beautiful timbre that is nevertheless pretty much lost otherwise. Cheers :)

I think it's complete as is. Vocals kind of lack groove, but well, you work with what you have. A bit heavy on the processing, it's taking away from intelligibility of the lyrics. The overall sound isn't exactly club worthy, but I'm guess it's not trying to be 100% club music.

For melody, I think something to work on in future projects is better variety of phrasing. There's a lot of repetition of hopping on the off 8ths, and while that could be a good theme for a short section, it seems a bit much throughout in the tune. Shift back and forth between placing the down beat on beat and off 8ths, having the phrase lead up to a logical conclusion, and then leaving a gap. Also, the off 8th hopping gets repetitive because they're mostly done with same semi staccato articulation. So have some connected as legato phrases while some are staccato and you'll get more variety.

In terms of pitch content, I guess the theme was to move around in dorian minor.. which is fine, but perhaps throwing in some passing notes to make more efficient use of the chord notes would make it less of a rigid dorian minor, and may also cut down on long single note repetition sequences. Not that you HAVE to move around, but sitting on a note seemed to happen quite often.

Anyway, these are just general things for future projects. I think this tune does what it sets out to do. A complete tune, clear format, section dynamics apparent through arrangement.

The verse melody is a bit static, and I can move notes around with vari-audio, as I don't have access to the original vocalist (who was just a hobbyist vocalist). To get a pro vocal with modern phrasing/vibrato etc I'm looking at $$$ session muso again.

With these dance remixes, it could be a case of doing something creative by bending what's there, so Ill go down that path but this will likely produce a more 'processed' sound.

Still, it's hopefully better than Vocaloid :)

I'll play around.

Anyway, don't forget we are looking for perfection every time we listen at something new from another fellow composer-musician, because all of us here giving these points of view to you are also musicians looking to perfect our own productions.

I think it is a good working song all in all, but we will always look for details to anything you may post. What is cool about this, nevertheless, is that it is in your advantage, because I think that in Planet Z we care sincerely about how musicians feel about their composed music and mastered pieces.

Having said that, the conclusion is that you and all the other composers should never get discouraged by the criticism they get in this forum for any of your or their musical creations, because we give them with real goodwill, joining the creativity of the artist, so we all grow in understanding and skills together for even better productions

Thats cool, its constructive critisism. It's like ScopeRise, no article is ever finished and is a candidate for improvement.

I mean, ScopeRise has a proof-reader so songs should have proof-listeners.

I've uploaded a new version, same link as before

http://soundcloud.com/hitfoundry/hard-not-to-care

Basically I've mixed in more of the untreated vocal.

Next I'm keen to work on the Kensuguro R&B remix from his post here :

http://forums.planetz.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=31564

Might be a while before I can get to it but I like the idea.
