sure, but the console is pretty cool in that it responds normally(remote desktop is slow) and at 1 rack space, it makes an easier, but heavier rig to carry. it's more bulletproof than a laptop or remote desktop and you can't leave it at the gig without leaving the whole rig...it looks cool, too...
the reason i suggested that model, is that it will fit in 17" deep racks. many of those consoles are very deep, since they're usually used in server racks.

i suggested remote desktop because military grade KM is very expensive, but if you find it for 100 dolars it's the best solution.
Anyway, remote desktop over radmin isn't slow, it uses a special video driver and you can see level meters in real time with no lag, it's enough to set the refresh rate equal to the one used by the display, then go fullscreen and nobody can see it's remote desktop.
Thinking is over. This offer looks so tempting, but I see I'd need a good new laptop for really working with it - not just as a programming tool but also for making music - and that all would end up paying 3000€ and some days of reorganisation which is simply too much for me. It would have been great before 2009 but times have changed. I'll be jealous when there will be the first new devices just running on XITE.
Anybody there who wants to grant me an XITE?
In return, let's say, I could make all of my devices including Fluliq open for all.
You dont absolutely have to have a laptop to run it. Just run it on your PC then get a laptop down the track after you've sold some plugs. If you dont sell any, you've still got a great music making machine like the rest of us non-devs, so you cant loose really.
I just don't have a PC with PCe (just one slot for graphic...) My PC with scope cards is badly build. I found a way to use it, but I can't change anything without expecting the worst... So I had to buy a laptop or a desktop
Hang on mccy. Your saying that as a dev you can get hold of the sdk, xite-1 and a laptop and it would cost you 3000€? And then have the opportunity to make money from selling the devices you make? I paid more than that just for the xite-1 and you are moaning?. I really feel for you.
i bought 2 computers with 4gb ram each, faster core2 duos and quadro graphics cards off of ebay for $150 each SHIPPED off of ebay. they're HP xw4400s and they work great, both with Scope cards and the XITE....i sold one of the quadro cards for $150....

Oh, great tip! Looks like a nice solution for my desktop-crap with or without Xite.
O.K. I have no idea about actual desktop hardware and scope compatibility. So I thought it would be good to have an update on my basic knowledge. Could it be that all the fear in the beginning with pcie letting pci dissapear was nonsense? Looking for a mainboard and a CPU lets me find things like this:
Intel Core i5 3570K 4x 3.4GHz / MSI H77 Mainboard for less than 330€
And it has 3 PCIs on board. Is it just so simple to put my old Scope Pros + an 4DSP extension card in the 3 pcis having left pcie for graphic and one for XITE?
Comparing to the cheap HP Workstation XW4400 solution that would be so endlessly much more power I think... Or are the duo cores comparing well??? No they don't, do they? For me having a first generation I5 laptop was like seeing no limits on CPU for a long time.
Any other basic recommendations? Maybe I'll switch back to desktop computer as main audio machine.
Can't remember what i have, not at the studio. but the motherboard has pci pcie and agp. i don't think it will be too hard to find a desktop solution with all those connecions still.
Yes it is so simple to just install the pci scope boards on the pci and connect an xite-1 to the pcie.
ScopeRise has an article on it.
For me desktop all the way for your main daw computer, more power for the buck.
Laptops are just great for portability.
it remains to be seen how well the MSI H77 will work with the PCI cards. up until now, socket 1155 computers have performed poorly with PCI cards. the newest bios may fix all the problems, no one has been the guinea pig yet....yes, that system with the i5 should be significantly more powerful than the core2 duo, but the core2 duo is still pretty good. if you are still using a P4, either system would be a MAJOR upgrade.
the point is, you CAN get a newer computer that is a major upgrade for very little money.
Yes, exactly that's what I found enlighting to reed. As I want to work with XP on the scope machine I bet i have not a real option & Jimmys hint is a very good one! With scope inside I don't really need a super fast computer anyway. For me switching to I5 on Laptop was (in terms of performance not in sound!) like getting rid of that old PCI scope cards while being able to do similar complex projects. The wisdom I found in the end is that the old scopes are still plenty of power, even compared to the newest PCs! So OMG, how mighty is a new PC with XITE. Unbelievable.
