what a useless lot of junk.
there are already plenty of laws against assualt, battery and mayhem. just enforce the laws that exist. a tough hate crime bill won't change anything.
the only reason for that article is to raise a public outcry for ridiculous laws that are part of a movement away from sane, democratic rule.
you hate laws eh?
you seem to be cynical about anything which tries to improve a societal situation.
Happily the Chilean authorities react more appropriate, according to the article.
If it's true that neonazis are involved the event is even more important to tackle.

hate crime laws don't do anything to eliminate hate.

they are stupid because there are already laws to prosecute the heck out of people like the ones who did in that poor guy from Chile. just properly enforce the laws that exist.

there's no need for laws that eliminate due process just because you are appalled by the alleged crime.

don't get it twisted. i'm all for prosecuting a crime like the one in the article.

oh, and no one has forgotten that this thread is about Nestor's concerns about a huge armed conflict in the "middle east" that has the potential to become a global catastrophy. it should be pretty clear that i don't agree with all of Nestor's conclusions, but i don't see the need to try to change the subject. i'm grown up enough to not participate, if even dicussing such matters offended me the way it offends you, hubird.

you want to change the subject to anything, Chilean laws, my character, S|C's business practices, anything but actual discussion about the subject of the thread, even to say, "i don't think this is a big deal" and then give your reasoning. here, we call that type of behavior "chickenshit".

no, you, the paragon of democratic participation just say "don't talk about it". you are the censor.

At this very moment there is such an international confusion about Israel versus Iran that it is a mess! Everybody is moving around in all directions, it is similar to what happens when you hit the ground while many ants are working hard for their food, they start moving in all possible directions at the same time looking for a way to escape danger. The difference we have with ant’s behavior it is that they “unite” in front of a problem and reaching an agreement, finally work together to solve it, but us (countries), we try to run away to save only our own egoist interests! It is amazing to realize it, but even ants understand better each other than we do with all our refinements and extremely complicated politics… it is ridiculous…

Human beings can be so ridiculous when the obsession for power and ambition takes their heads and hearts, that it is WOW! We may wear very nice ties and shining shoes, sitting around wonderful tables to discuss matters, but in depth, we behave like brainless puppets that are only waiting for any mistake to crash our opponents, when this “opponents” should simply be our “fellows”, because this is what they are... It is sad and amazing that with only a very little good will among all the participant countries, this war could be seen as a total waste of time and energy. But of course, my thought it is pure “utopia” for them, this will never happen, because they are convinced that “having more” and “being more important”, it is the very meaning of life… What could be more ridiculously false than that! The prove is that this war is taking shape, regardless of opinions, tendencies, philosophies and whatever else may be.

stop blaming human beings in general.
they are naturally social creatures. those that study this behavior know what it takes to lead them astray. it's SOME humans that are defective.

among the commoners, there is always a chance for common ground. it's the uncommoners who know nothing of cooperation. i almost expect Cthulhu or some of his friends to end up being the true leadership...

No, I don’t blame the whole lot of the human race; we are too many for that :P But I definitely blame, as I said before: "egoist interests and the obsession for power and ambition", which are the hidden cause of so many dramas in our world. That’s why I said: “us (countries)”, because I’m referring to the ones that lead politics and their monstrous interests, in the form of countries and not to the citizens of the world as a whole.

Anyway, those who today contribute to the abuse of others are not just a few thousands; they came to be millions already... Undeniably.

It goes without saying that there are wonderful people wherever you go too, and that they are one of the most important reasons to be alive.

I have always understood that Iranian missiles are capable of doing significant damage (this is since a few years ago), so saying that they are weak to retaliate, is just propaganda to try to diminish what they have in their hands, sort of a Pandora’s box with lot of surprises for their enemies, as I said in a recent post.

“Within a very short time, Iran has already improved the accuracy of its missiles from a few kilometers from the target to just a few meters”, according to Rubin:

Media war bigger than ever... / US-backed Syrian opposition poses serious threat to Russia:

http://www.presstv.ir/detail/235037.html

“Washington and Tel Aviv claim and appear to believe that their planned assault on Iran will be a “limited war”, targeting limited objectives and lasting a few days or weeks – with no serious consequences” – Petras states.

This is my main concern about a war with Iran. This war will NOT develop the easy way, as it happened with Iraq, for instance. Anyway, with Iraq they said it would last a very short time, but it lasted much longer than expected. An attack over Iran will bring consequences never thought before as many countries will participate, like Russia, to name just one of them.

The tail that wags from (interests within) the Chinese dog imo. Each time in the past that there were efforts in Iraq, Afghanistan and so on N. Korea was given a solid wagging for all to watch, this seems no different to me.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

I see just cool reactons from Washington to the 'threats' of NC by the way.
NC couldn't even get the thing up and flying, I'd say don't take it too seriously.

here's something interesting while we're off topic, that is sorta on topic:
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/atk-se ... 2012-03-12

it seems that the US government has purchased 450 million rounds of .40 caliber hollow point ammo. this ammo is sufficient for 7 or more years of outright war, based on the 5.5 million rounds a month(for all calibers) used during hot periods of recent middle east conflicts. this type is illegal for warfare per the Geneva agreements, but it seems to be ok for the American populace. i'm not worried, of course. the people in charge of such things are always humanitarians and the president is even African American.

I'm glad you take that Geneva agreement as a thankful achievement of international accordance.

Sad that your government shirks it's duty to follow it.

Could it be that the agreement only applies to usage against citizens?
If you're allowed to bomb a city you would probably also be credited to shoot with (these) bullets...

It seems remarkable to me that you even know which type of bullets are allowed or not allowed on the battlefield according international standards...
I vagely remember the discussion in the context of the use of them by national police forces at riots...
But you could be right.
You could write a letter to a human rights watch org.

Only half, isn't it? Or is that so by definition?
Which part then would be responsible for the bad DNA I don't know :-P
