My first soundcards were from Turtle Beach. The Maui and the Monte Carlo. The Maui had 2 MB sample memory. I had one sample CD with 808 and 909 samples and other loops.

Bundled with the cards was a sample editor called Wave SE

First I only had this control panel for the Maui. This version did now have envelope editing so I had to add a sustain MIDI message to all the MIDI tracks and only use one shot samples (mostly drums). So I was very happy the find the WavePatch software later on (shown in the first post).

It could load stereo samples but it had a strange phase problem between to left and right channel that randomly changed by every note trigger. So I used only mono samples and with 2 MB of sample RAM that was not a bad choice. I used a 25 MHz 486 with Win 3 .11 with Cakewalk but the timing was very wobbly. Under Windows 95 and an upgrade to a 66 MHz CPU things got better.

I had the Turtle Beach Tropez card and ran the Voyetra Digital Orchestrator Pro - an upgrade to the below software :

No real time effects, everything done offline.

Moved on to Sound Blaster Pro with extra ram slots for uploadable soundfonts (still using DOP).

Those systems were great for their time. Then moved on to C/W PULSAR !

I used Voyetra DOP also.
Great for MIDI.

Used it with Samplitude 4.x - running on floppies.

Ahhhhh.... the good ol' days - only 20 years ago.
30 years ago however..... hehehe....

i had a copy of cakewalk for Atari(i think that's what it was). i wish that i can say that i used it for anything but a custom laser light show....
