I'm using reaper & do most things on a laptop, but I see, I have unbelievale value in my backhand with my scope dektop PC. I'd just combine my old way of working using scope synths & some special things from within scope with my new way of working within reaper on my laptop.
It seems there are quite a few possibilities to send midi to Scope:
1. MidiCable. Problem: I have only one out on my RME babyface, so wouldn't it be better to use
2. MidiOverLan with in best case a free version like MIDIethernet or
3. whole Process via REAPER with
a) reawire?
b) reastream
c) reamote...
I'd like to plug a LAN cable and be able to adress multiple midi ports within scope on my dektop PC from my laptop. That would be the easiest way.
Is there a simple solution?
+ why not using the cpu horsepower of the desktop? If possible also audiostreaming from one PC to the other or networking VSTs...
Any experiences?
Martin
Best way to use a laptop natively & send midi to Scope PC?

I find this works well (not only is it a real-time protocol for MIDI over ethernet, it is the standard that apple uses, so you can use it to talk with MACs and iOS devices).

Looks great. Hope I'll find the time to test it tomorrow!
Thanks!
Thanks!

For me EthernetMidi worked best so far.
Others all have latency problems. Is there something I did wrong? I'd love to use REAstream, which works perfectly from within reaper projects, but... also latency issues with midi. I wonder why EthernetMidi is so much much better.

With my scope computer & main laptop everything works great. Wow. That's whole new possibilities combining best of both worlds.
I now tested with reastream, but I bet rtpmidi would work also. With reastream it's so simple to just have a second reaper open on scope PC which sends midi to the scope windows midi. Latency feels very good this way.

That's great to know! Thanks for putting all the info here about your experiences.

I'm so happy with that! It's just a hughe Synthesizer extension connected with one cable. Finally I could also take advantage of at least one ADAT in for audiostreams (laptop has RME babyface connected) but my main point is: Quick and sponanious connectivity & workflow. O.K. I'd like to own XITE of course whicht would be even better/perfect, but It makes no sense for me investing that money. A new powerfull desktop PC would not be my solution also.
It reminds me a bit of the old 1990s days, when working with 8track analog and just being creative with what you have.
I had 8 sequencer ins in SCOPE & 8 X REAstream numered and routed from 1-8 connected to 8 synthesizers routed to mixer in Scope. What an easy setup!!! I always spent hours creating SCOPE projects. For each song a new complex one. I guess those days are over now & economical thinking will lead to more fun and productivity.
Last & hardest problem was, that WIN7 could not make lan-adapter-settings visible. What a mess!!!! Finally I installed the most actual lan driver & problem dissappeared. I'm not a network expert at all, but when everything works as it should it's really easy to connect.
For now I don't know, how I will record that Scope - synth - tracks. Maybe at the end of the project on the scope PC in one multitrack session & than copying those wavs to the main Laptop!?
In the next days I guess I will do some latency tests, but I guess in the end there will be problems only in big projects when the computer becomes slower anyway.

+1! Plus scope 6 will have copperlan support built in.
