Anyone using Asus P6X58D-E?

Post by Refrochia »

Need some help and wondering if any of you kind bods can?

Finally got the funds to buy a new PC - replacing my P4 3Gb (7yrs old-ish :o )

Im looking at the Asus P6X58D-E but im open to suggestions as long as the suggested MB has the following:

Socket 1366
Sata 6Gb
USB3

Currently have 1 pro, 1 pulsar and 1 luna installed. I'm OK with reducing my current 3 PCI slots to the 2 that the P6X58 has (I intend on selling the pulsar and luna and replacing with another pro). 1 PCI slot is not an option though.

As ever, it comes down to IRQ sharing. PCI1 shares with PCIE1. Anything that shares with PCI2 can be disabled so not worried about that. I intend on using PCIE1 for a Nvidia GTX580 but not sure whether the sharing will cause a problem? Does anyone know?

Yes I could use PCIE2 for the GPU but I'm quite tempted to have 2 in SLI at some point for gaming. Could the sharing be mitigated by making the board in PCI2 the primary scope card and the one in PCI1 the additional card?

Also, any ideas what the PCI bus performance is like?

Keen to stick with Asus - theyve served me well for an eternity (and also friends that i've built scope rigs for in the past) so unless anyone has had a bad experience with this MB I think I will go for it. I'll obviously report back here with my findings.

Like I said though - I'm open to suggestions providing the MB meets the above criteria.

Thanks
R
