2TB Seagate Drives

Anybody using these high capacity drive?

Are they reliable etc?

being as 1tb drives are barely reliable, i'd say, no. they are only for backup.

A lot of Seagate drives can have a setting that allows for 1/2 storage space but almost double performance. That also makes it more reliable (in this mode tracks aren't "trimmed" as they call it, so density isn't pushed and each bit gets all the magnetic area it possibly can).

I can also attest to the Momentus Hybrid drives for laptops. My own personal touch in each of those ;)

high capacity drives are based on multiple platters within the unit, which increases heat and noise.
I have a direct comparison of WD green 2TB and 740GB drives and prefer the latter.
Depends on the requirements of continous storage on a single unit.
We use the 2TBs with a large picture archive as it allows a convenient duplication of the whole dataset in a single run.
For non-continous storage my favourite method are 5.25" housings to simply slip a SATA disk in and out.
