Hi nunziata,

I think the only Xeons that perform better than i7 and i5 at audio production (and everything else) are the 5600 series (based on i7 tech?). These cost a fortune to build.

Go for a i5 or i7 or the Sandbridge flavours. They are powerful, power efficient, quieter and cost a fraction of the server/workstation DAW.

Check out the following sites (if you haven't already):

I tried XITE on my dual xeon "SR-2" which is all overclocked to hell, and it worked fine i only had it on there for about 9 hours of work though,

the only BSOD i ever had was with its normal place which is a "i7 875k"

no, there are plenty of motherboards with pci slots. the problem is the pci-x slot. if you get rid of the scsi controller it will be easier. if you need raid, most motherboards support raid natively(sata). the scsi drives are obsolete.

for dual xeon socket 1366, there is intel and supermicro.

yes, unfortunately, if you want the latest hardware...

sata drives are just as fast.
