Xite on Macbookpro with bootcamp XP?

Post by Jerome »

Does anybody know whether Xite will run on a macbookpro with bootcamp/XP ?

My dell laptop just died 2 days before my expresscard will arrive :(
I don't want to buy a new windows laptop just for the time till OSX for Xite will be ready.

I can't try out because 'm on still on OSX tiger without bootcamp. I would have to update to leopard first, which I'm only willing to do when Xite will work with bootcamp/XP.

Maybe someone knows?

grtz,

the program will run because you'd be running the machine on XP, but there wouldn't be a compatible driver, afaik....

I am using the XITE on an Xp desktop, you just have to check with S|C if there's an XP driver for the Express card interface. Really shouldn't be a problem...

I an currently using Scope 5 PCI on a macbook pro running Win7 in bootcamp, using Magma EC interface, and it works...

Thanks, I'll mail them to check if there's a XP driver for the expresscard.
Gary, you think there isn't one for XP, only for windows7?

no, there's an xp driver. i just don't know how it will work on that system. actually, i've found that macs run much faster on xp anyway, so if it worked, great! you know...i bet it would....

i forgot to tell you:

The newer MBPs (unibody) seem to have an "underperforming" express card slot... Although there is no reason why it shouldn't work, I'm afraid you'll never know until you try it. You should really ask S|C if they have tested the card on you version of the MBP, or what the return policy is, in case it doesn't really work.

The MBP I am using for the Magma EC system I spoke of above is of the pre-unibody generation.

Best of luck, and do let us know how it goes!

It should work with XP, Vista and Windows7 32b according to Ralf.
But no tests on a macbookpro.

"We have never tested if we can run XITE with Bootcamp.
Scope 5.0 software is running on XP, Vista and 7 with 32 Bit.
64 bit versions are in development.

So you can give it a try with bootcamp."

Yes, that's what I meant... What confuses me, is that if S|C are working on an OSX version, how come they don't have a Mac around to do some testing? I admire their work, but these small things are really quite annoying, users still have to pay for testing the equipment...

I have always run all Win software with bootcamp, and never had a single problem. In fact, using a streamlined XP, I can get similar to better performance as with OSX. The only issue you may find is with the Express Card interface on the MBP, but I sincerely hope everything works well (so I can get mine too ;) ).

Cheers,

I was just going to say, as long as you don't require the hardware be detected by the BIOS (I don't think the Xite should) then the only point point of failure is the expresscard slot. I'm sure once the mac's EFI passes the expresscard along to the APIC the Xite should get enumerated...and be visible to its Windows driver once that's loaded.

It works although bootcamp messed up my OSX tiger partition :( Luckily I made a disk backup but it set me back several hours. Apple warns not to use bootcamp1.3 on a commercial system, I agree :)

I hadn't much time to play around with Xite (some deadlines). Most of the example projects open and run. I had a few crashes when trying to load the projects which includes synths that aren't standard in Scope v5 (prodyssey and sixstring)
Later I'll try more when I have more time, can't wait.
