Very hot ICH9r chipset on DP35DP

Post by skfno »

Just noticed my i/o controller hub tempreture is running at 88 degrees C when idle even though the mother board (Intel DP35DP) is only registering a temp of 40 degrees. Anyone any ideas why?
Is it best to use active cooling on it? If so what is a good cooling solution?

Did it not come with a HSink ?
Mine had a stock solution. The Intel DP35DP is a wise choice, so let's hope you have no problems.

Yes the motherboard came with the standard heat sink on it. Do you know if it should require further cooling when running with 3 scope cards?
the computer spec is:
Intel DP35DP
2GB Patriot memory
Intel Q6600 Core 2 quad processor
Matrox Millennium P650 PCIe 128mb graphics
1 x Pulsar 2
2 x Power Sampler
1 x A16 Ultra
EZ Cool 700 watt psu

no further cooling is required. is that memory 1.8vlt? memory voltage is VERY important on that board.

Thank you so much for replying.
Here is the memory spec from the website:
PC2-6400 (800MHz) dual Data Rate
240-Pin Dual in-line memory module
Non-ECC Unbuffered
2 Rank Double-sided module
7.8US Refresh Interval (8192 CYCLES/64MS)
1.9V Power Requirement
Auto and self refresh capability
PCB height: 1181(mil)
Serial Presence-Detect (SPD)
100% Tested
Lifetime Warranty
RoHS Compliant
Due to limitations of the chipset, this part is not intended for systems using the Intel 965 chipset.

It was sold to me originally as being compatable with my previous board (Intel DG965WH) but it would appear it wasn't considering the last staement in the spec.
Would the 1.9v requirement be sufficient to cause the overheating?
kind regards,
Steve

i don't know about the overheating, but it might make for instability....

Not got to the bottom of this overheating yet.
Still waiting for the Kingston ram. However I did contact Patriot about the existing ram and they said it was definitely compatable with the DP35DP but to do a ram check to make sure the ram was not faulty. They also said they would replace it if there was a problem with it so I will see what happens with the test. Will post an update when I get to the bottom of this.

Steve
