PsyQ and OptiMaster are excellent tools, I agree, with PsyQ, remember to be light on the effect, or it will make your song too "glassy." But I'll probably use this all the time now.

OptiMaster is also an excellent tool, with quite a few options. It doesn't impart too much character, which is nice in a mastering plugin, and gives you a nice multiband compressor, expander, limiter... the Wizard function is surprisingly good, using this, you will only need to make some minor adjustments to fit your particular taste/application. (Although I imagine I'll get to the point where I would be able to set this all quickly myself... can't wait until I'm that good) ...

i try optimaster but in one hour of demo's duration i didn't find how good is and now i don't want to risk - to buy thing what i'm not sure that can work better than tools what i usualy use for same thing.
but psy q is another story. i'm sure that's working and sounds better than some similar native (or other) tools what i had chance to tried.

1 hour demo is not enough - cw make big mistake here!

I also have the Timeworks DSP suite. I still think I will use the OptiMaster, ever so lightly, even with the Timeworks Mastering Compressors...

I could tell within 20 minutes of messing around with OptiMaster (on a full MP3 file playing from WinAMP) that it was a really great and usable tool, but you are right, it has a LOT of options, and an hour could be too short to really run through it.

PSY Q is pretty awesome. I don't see a point having a BBE sonic maximizer in the studio with this around, I prefer the PsyQ sound...

yes, i found that's optimaster is "good" tool but i tried to do mastering with optimaster in one hour, and when times goes, i do mastering like i usualy do. then i found then i had better result on "custom" way but i have no another chance to try it again, but realy try - not in one hour. now i'm afraid to buy optimaster (it's not cheap). i don't have big experience and knowlage - i need little more time... and many of us!

usualy i use bbe and i prefere natives, but in last time cw & co suprised me more and more in positive way.
pt-free 96k, now psy q... tomorrow optimaster - maybe...
i sale my second pulsar board, but i'm afraid that i'll buy it again, because pulsar becomes to me something like "needle and spoon"!

Yeah, the PsyQ is pretty amazing, I'm using it in just about every project. I just wish I understood better what it was doing. It's unlike any other EQ I've ever used, and I understand it's not really an EQ device, but the absence of numerical parameters (freq, q, dB or threshold settings) make it kind of a voodoo device - crank up the "process", twiddle the "shape", check the "sound" button. It's pretty easy to get the hang of it, but knowing a little more about the actual sound processing that's being done would be, well, enlightening anyway.
Do you figure there's some harmonic synthesis (like the BBE) happening?

my opinion: here!

I would like to add that the 'Opti' is pretty easy to 'master' after some while
Just tweak the wizard's results and the presets (which are subtle but I like them). (Un)muting the frequency bands make it easier to understand what's happening.
And the expanders are cool too:)

The PsyQ really still shines after months of use.

Both highly recommended.
