Hardware version 16 detected error ... pro 4.5 on XP
Hardware version 16 detected error ... pro 4.5 on XP
SCOPE pro v4.5 was installed a while ago on a clean install of XP now at SP3.
It simply stopped loading at startup with the "Hardware version 16 detected" error. It all seemed to happen all of a sudden. I'm wondering if security updates might have screwed something up?
The only way I can get the machine to start without error is by removing the board all together.
Basically, the system seems not able to access the creamware harware at startup.
Without being able to boot with the hardware, I can't uninstall the scope software, etc.
I've looked over some other threads but none of the comments seem to apply precisely to my situation.
Can anybody help?

Re: Hardware version 16 detected error ... pro 4.5 on XP
that's bad news, sorry...
when you reinstall the card, does windows reinstall drivers(it should)? when you check the device manager, is the card listed?
you can try cleaning contacts with 99% or better alcohol, or stabilant, or deoxit d5. you should also reseat the i/o daughterboard(four nylon screws hold it on, be careful), and you can clean those contacts also.
if it doesn't start working, i'm afraid you may have a dead card, which S/C can fix.

Re: Hardware version 16 detected error ... pro 4.5 on XP
i have had stuff like that happen to me. It was solved by changing the card into another pci slot..
Re: Hardware version 16 detected error ... pro 4.5 on XP
yes, if the card is not well seated or if there is any foriegn substance on the contacts it won't work. changing slots might fix either problem, or it could be something else unknown, perhaps even a motherboard hardware connector problem...
Re: Hardware version 16 detected error ... pro 4.5 on XP
Thanks. I suspected it might be a physical connection problem. I'll try all the things you have mentioned and update this thread with the result.
Re: Hardware version 16 detected error ... pro 4.5 on XP
actually don't be bother or even uninstall the program just unscrew the pci card out set it back in easy ... and screw it in another position this happens all the time . . .

Re: Hardware version 16 detected error ... pro 4.5 on XP
Use deoxit gold, stabilant 22, 99% isoprobyl alchohol or etc to clean the contacts (NOT tuner cleaner or 70% alchohol).
Re: Hardware version 16 detected error ... pro 4.5 on XP
Just curious, why do you warn against 70% alcohol? Same bitter taste additives as 99%, which as far as I know do not leave a residue; and the other 29% is just distilled water, right? So what's the problem with it?valis wrote:Use deoxit gold, stabilant 22, 99% isoprobyl alchohol or etc to clean the contacts (NOT tuner cleaner or 70% alchohol).

70% will leave a film.

Re: Hardware version 16 detected error ... pro 4.5 on XP
plus the leftovers are just 70% fun.
Re: Hardware version 16 detected error ... pro 4.5 on XP
Well, I cleaned the contacts with an acceptable contact cleaner and put the scope card in the original slot -- blue screen -- it flashed by so quickly I couldn't note anything.
Placed the scope board in the only other 32-bit pci slot I have--it's a fairly recent Intel DG33FB with a 3GHz Core 2 Duo CPU E6850@3GHz. I built it to house the scope card.
This time the system wouldn't boot -- lsass invalid endpoint error.
I removed the scope board and everything starts as normal. No errors or warnings at all. Device Manager shows all existing devices as they should be.
Sadly. I'm guessing my scope card is pooched.
I'm probably going to need those instructions for manually removing the software from the system and Cubase ...

Re: Hardware version 16 detected error ... pro 4.5 on XP
I'd like to get S/C to look at the card. How do I go about doing that? (garyb?)
Re: Hardware version 16 detected error ... pro 4.5 on XP
i'd leave the software for the moment. you can go to start/run/msconfig/startup and uncheck Scope. Scope won't load at startup then and annoy you.
to send the card in to S/C write to support(or Ralf directly). tell them clearly and briefly what the symptoms are and request a repair RA. S/C will give further instructions. if you're in the USA, ship via USPS, much cheaper than UPS...

Thanks, Gary! I'm in Canada (Doug in Toronto). For the record, I bought the card through you, 20061005. I'll contact Ralf.
Re: Hardware version 16 detected error ... pro 4.5 on XP
that's right, i remember.
pm me if you have further troubles.

Goink, I had similar problem after I installed SP3 :
http://forums.planetz.com/viewtopic.php ... 69#p239269
I ended up reformatting and reinstalling everything.
Here, it seemed like the problem was SP3 security was stopping scope installer, possibly because I may have had a different user name before I installed SP3.
Might be worth checking before you send the card. At least try the card in another machine first, coz my Luna worked in another PC just wouldnt work on my DAW until I reformatted.

Well, soniccore tested the card and gave it a pass.
I do not have it installed, currently.
Can anyone tell me how to uninstall the software manually? The Uninstaller doesn't run. I want it off my sysem before I try anything else.
Other sw is looking for scope and failing.
I really don't want to have to rebuild this system from scratch.

Re: Hardware version 16 detected error ... pro 4.5 on XP
you have any option to try installing winxp somewhere else ? maybe second partition or other disk, then disable everything connected to internet/network and try just installing scope software
Re: Hardware version 16 detected error ... pro 4.5 on XP
Thanks, everybody! I'm guessing it was an XP SP3 security thing as per the comments above.
The folks at Sonic Core gave it a thorough going-over on more than one machine. The card is 100% correct.
I'm going to move on. The card is up for sale, now.
This is too grand and good a technology for me, being the lowly hobbyist that I am. I mean it seriously. It's a great technology that's beyond my scope (so to speak) at present. My interests have changed somewhat and I'm too lazy to put in any more effort.
