The fact that everyone is so nice / thoughtful / helpful in this forum has finally pursuaded me to let you all listen to something I have done with my CW hardware.

This tune used 1 Luna 2 soundcard with sts 3000, 2 x z tapper and (I think) CW's own graphic EQ. And of course the mixer, all sequenced in Cubase 3.7. All very simple stuff really. All sounds are soundfonts downloaded from http://www.thesoundsite.net except the very simple synth sound which I sampled from our very own transplanet synth - I couldn't run it with the project because it was too big !

Criticism and comments not just welcome but very much desired...

p.s. wasn't sure which genre to call it so it is 'electronic' which I thought was a pretty funny category considering everyone on this forum must be writing electronic music in some form or another !

what's happening with these new members? quality music keeps on being transmitted from planetZ home base.

this is outstanding stuff. it will take lots of work before i will be confident enough to upload another one of my tracks.

i really like this atmosphere. (it reminds me a bit of passarani, who also used a lot of strings combined with electronic beats on one of his albums, although a totally different style.)

all will kneel for mr swim!

Well I certainly did not expect THAT reaction ! Thank you so much - it means such a lot, as I'm sure you know, to get support for the stuff you are doing. Who is this passarini character ? Where can I find some of his stuff ?

no worries - it is certainly a very big library. Of course, variable quality, but the cello in this tune was from there and is still one of the best instruments I own (apart from REAL ones !)

is it the bell sound going all the way through that is Transplanet?

Brazil is one of the best movies EVER created and Terry Giliam is a GENIUS. On that note, I have just been listening to a Cornelius remix of the original song 'Brazil' in which he uses a voice generator to brilliant effect - he really gets it singing using pitch bend and some vibrato. Very clever.

p.s. the transplanet is actually a sound just behind the bells which is pretty easy to miss. It has a bell-like tone but is continuous (and with no attack shape) and sort of follows the bells around. It just seemed to enhance them a bit....

defex - same here, I love Brazil, I feel one of Gilliam's strongest.

Nice use of the same to really kick this one into gear. The dissonance at the beginning fits better after that great lead comes in, and the vocal sample (edit: agree, a little manging on this sample would be to nice effect and probably a lot of fun) helps to define the mood well.

Keep on going like that...

cheers sub...agree mangling is fun and would have been good. However, I didn't really know how to do that back then, and don't seem to be able to edit it now that I'm on v3 software (this was back on 2.5).

I suppose I shall just have to write a new tune !

Sounds like IDM to me, add some more weirdness, mangle it...mmm would be tasty. Yes, give us more of this.

I have to agree, really great stuff here, I'd never expected that quality.
When my DSL is set up I'll quickly complete my collection, too

Great idea to give the lead part to that classical instrument, fits perfectly.
There's no frontier in music but creativity.

I like! So different! The dissonant chords and the strings add a melancholy feel to the piece, which is a great contrast to the fitful rhythm. Well done.

I think a judicious use of reverb would help to separate the strings / lead from the rhythm of the chords, and add to the tenor of the piece. Great use of vox snippets.

Funny, I think you captured the feel of that movie perfectly!

PaulM - you are right - the cards are fantastic, and (wait for the cheese) I couldn't have done it without CW!

Cheers Borg - I have heard of Hymen records through Beefcake and will definitely check out Passarani.

Finally Kamurah, I totally agree. To think I didn't even really KNOW about reverb when I wrote that tune . . . what was I thinking ?! Also I suppose they hadn't bought out masterverb then so there wasn't anything that hot around for free (yes I'm a bit of a cheapskate).

I never got around to commenting this beautiful track, which is one of my favourites on PlanetZ, and has been for many months now, as have all your other tracks that I have been able to find posted somewhere. Great mood-sense and beats-progamming! Actually I've been looking forward to hear new stuff from you, but havn't seen any yet.
Anyways please let us hear more of your beautifully crafted music!

this is so much the kind of thing I really like.

Gamelan...that's what I think of...gamelan and strings, very nice blending...those are programmed drums?

David Sylvian could really sing over this...or myabe David Bowie. There is a bit of a "Low" feel.
