how to remove unwanted reverb from a recording?
how to remove unwanted reverb from a recording?
i have a recording, low quality from a big church in rome.
it is choral music with church organ.
tons of reverb in it.
i have tried saving it but it seems impossible.
it sounds just like from miles away with 10 reverbs applied.
is there a masrtering device, or a mastering tip using my own gear(scope) to remove reverb??

Re: how to remove unwanted reverb from a recording?
It's not easy, and it's not even always possible, but...
If it's a stereo recording, I'd split the signal into Mid and Side components, and chuck a Transient Designer on the Side, reducing the Sustain control. You may also find that you can EQ some of it out of the Side channel, but if it was recorded in a large space then the reverb will be pretty much full-bandwidth - especially if it's got a bloody church organ in it! High-passing the sides might help tame the low end of the tails though, which will probably be worse.
Take care to time-align the Mid and Side signals *after* applying the Transient Designer though. You might even want to increase the Attack on the Mid signal as well, though choral and organ stuff isn't very 'transienty', so it might not do much.
Cheers!
Chris

thanks...............
another opinion is in such cases the recorded audio should not be fixed at all.
but i will give it a try

Yes that place needs some serious work. Some nice grey acoustic panels over those awful murals etc., then it would be cool.
Re: how to remove unwanted reverb from a recording?
well, if that is the name of the room...ARCADIOS wrote:you mean the room of St Peter of Rome????
you will probably need some more acoustic fixing elements than usual, but then, nobody said it would be easy...

you could also take lots of pics of the cathedral and use them as a wallpaper for a studiokylie wrote:well, if that is the name of the room...ARCADIOS wrote:you mean the room of St Peter of Rome????

There is (but not for scope (yet)):
http://www.algorithmix.com/en/kstereo.htm
expensive though
Re: how to remove unwanted reverb from a recording?
isn't that the very same tool that someone requested a scope version of its free "counterpart" sheppi for?

and also replace some paintings of the temple with the upcomming namm news?? soniccores spot in namm would be the biggest picture???

I've heard people claim that they can achieve some improvement in 'drying' up a signal with Transgainer too:
