Im setting up a seperate single pulsar 1 scope system on a mini ITX intel board for a special project, everything was going great till i went to install scope.
it would get "timeout DSP 0" before i could install scope. i took the card out and wiggled about some of the capacitors and tapped on the sharcs, (i also noticed the sharcs were cool at the front of the board and got progressively warmer towards the back)
then it worked, i installed scope, did the keys, loaded some projects, everything was fine.
then i rebooted it and its gone bad again.
I am sure it would cost a fortune to have this fixed in germany, would it be better just to replace the capacitors? none of them look bad, but i know electrolytic can lose their value, and these must be getting on (maybe they were part of the Japanese capacitor fiasco around then as well)
This card has been in an antistatic bag for about 2 or 3 years, and i cleaned the contacts with contact cleaner.
I have a digital meter and a scope, although i dont think i want to be testing the card while it is running

it could be caps or other components failing, or it could just be a cracked solder or two. a magnifying glass and soldering iron(or just an iron) might fix it all...

I was just looking closely and i have spotted a bit of white stuff at the base of
the highest voltage rated capacitor on the whole board ! (63v 1uf above the first sharc) near atmel at90s2313 microcontroller
and that capacitor is a different brand as well. the rest are Panasonic, this one has a sort of Mercedes Benz logo thing.

Which MINI ITX..............the G41....?
I need to know if it the graphics will run O.K. on that.
We have been testing 785's & 780's but they have 128MB 1333MHz Sideport RAM that's really fast and more than what's needed to run our apps.
The beauty is that it doesn't use sytem RAM. GPU & Sideport.
But if the G41 works that's great news. That means the G45CF Mini-ITX will work and that can use fast RAM and an E8600.
But even better is the i7 ITX that is sure to come out once the Atom's keep showing dismal sales.
I have to get into a 1U this Fall so I can scoot from gig to gig with an 88 noter and a powerful 4U.....That includes the 3U analog and the XITE-1.
I am glad someone else is getting into things, it shows spirit...

well it looks good so far except for the flakey pulsar itself 
i have an OCZ agility 60GB on there (was an NCIX daily special, couldn't resist!) and it boots windows and loads scope like nobody's business.(when the card works)
the little XP bar thingy gos across about half way and then you are ready to go in about 2 or 3 more seconds.
(actually i got that drive for something else, but thought i would give it a try)
the board is a DG41MJ with 2 GB ocz platinum and some crappy old temp PSU (going to use a power brick and ATX adapter http://www.mini-box.com/picoPSU-150-XT? ... tegory=981)
it has a E7300 on it till my $40 ebay pentium 5200 gets here

Well it seems fine, the only thing that is a bit strange is that the socket for the DVI connector is digital only (cant use 2 analog monitors)
when the pulsar was working i was just testing the usual suspects for crashing (sampler, delays, reverbs) while the meters were displaying, and i did not see anything strange or get a bsod.

I had troubles on a Supermicro because the onboard graphics made Gigastudio unstable.
I have been wanting to use a rackmount solution that works without a video card for years.
The time is here finally.
This is why I appluad gamers. Because of their market share the fps. race has caused onboard graphics to really become incredibly more powerful. The beauty of that is we don't need all of that power.
I still like the AMD Sideport and have seen it in action on the 785G's. But the cheap dual core CPU used wasn't the choice I would use. I would use the fastest dual core I could find.
Quads just aren't necessary, especially for just streaming. I delete all of the onboard consumer effects and do not use VSTi synths. So lean and fast wins the day.
Only problem is the E8600 is still the fastest stock dual core CPU on any platform. If AMD doesn't follow up with their latest Athlon II dual core's, it's nice to know that the Intel G's don't mess up the sytem resources.

the core 2 duos are nice and low power, very suitable for mini itx. i would just use those, they are nice and cheap and as fast as any AMD stuff,
Then i would wait out the i5/i7 till they come out with the next generation which has the graphics right on the CPU, then it would bother the system even less, especially if they are smart about partitioning the memory assigned to the GPU completely away from the system RAM. they have the internal busses to do it, but will they? i dont know, maybe anandtech does

i just put it in the freezer, after changing power caps did not help it is working for now.
all the sharcs run cool instead of some hot and some cool.
