direct monitoring works only on 8 out of 16 channels

Post by balaftuna »

Hi.

I might be missing something basic here. Been using direct monitoring for years without problems, but recently (maybe due to re-installation of the lot) I have direct monitoring only on 8 out of the 16 channels.

When selecting 'direct monitoring', 8 of the channels become muted, and the only way to hear them is to switch 'direct monitoring' off.

I use A16Ultra connected to PulsarII with Cubase 4.5

Any suggestions?

Many thanks.

Shay.

Perhaps I did not explain myself clearly, so I'll try again:

If there are microphones sending signals, when the direct monitoring box is ticked, I cannot hear anything through the system.
The sound will come through when the direct monitoring box is not ticked.

The clock source is "Slave to ADAT A".
I use cubase 4.5

Any ideas?

If anything is unclear, please let me know.

Many thanks.

Shay.

the icon in shape of a speaker must be set "on" (orange color) on each of the cubase tracks you want to hear. in direct.
That means selecting the correct source for that channel (asio input number). To activate multiple track, shift+click on speaker icon (may be there is an option in the prefrences to allow this but it should be by default).

yes ?

Thanks spacef. The speaker icon is 'armed'. It has to be something else.
All the best.

most problems with cubase are
the speaker not armed,
the vst connections i/os not activated in cubase inputs/outputs (cubase is touchy about this aspect),
or a misconnection in scope.

If problems solved automatically, it was probably something about cubase i/o connections that has recognized scope now....
Should stay fine for tomorrow...
Good luck

The place to check Asio connections in Cubase is:
Devices/Device Setup/VST Audio System/ASIO Scope
Sometimes pressing Reset is helpful.

hi ,
in fact i meant the other window with all the i/os in french it is called "vst connexions" and is accessible with the "F4" key.
I think it is something added since cubase SX 3 or 4.
before it was like db mac said (or i don't remember having to do all the stuff described below:).
Cubase is touchy because you have to make your own preset, and unfortunately, this preset is on a project basis rather than in general preferences. if you change the number of asio i/os in scope, you will have to add busses in the vst connection thing and it is quite annoying at first, especially when you don't know what is going on.... I didn't think i was a beginner on cubase or daws in general, but this bugged me a lot at first and had all kind of weird behavior when using cubase own presets... If you load an project made with an older version of cubase, it will be messy and you need to check those vst connections if something is wrong....

if you put less asio channels in scope, then it will be ok (like in the picture where some busses are "not connected" .
It is the dark side of cubase ....
