Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
Ive got my new pc last week,
Intel DP35DP
Intel E7400 Core 2 Duo
4 gigs Kingston DDR Ram
Seems a very powerfull system, but i have had some crashes. I saw my scope card is sharing IRQ with some other components...
How can i assign IRQ manually ?

Re: Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
you'll need to disable some stuff in the device manager.
what is shared?
what is shared?
Re: Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
as i see your mobo has 3 pci slots.
if you are installing a new os... windows 7 beta would be fine.... and you you have 1 scope card... find wich pci slot does not share irqs with other mobo device.
just put the card in that slot. i guess it would work fine.
it would be a huge mess trying to change irqs.
also it would not benefit at all, because if for example a pci slot shares with intel southbridge for example, it will share nomatter the number of irq you set.
in case a pci slot shares with a device that can be turned off, just turn it off(from bios or from within device manager)
for example i always turn off the usbs that have irq16 which always is the pciexpress cards irq.
just see within system info your irq sharrings.
the best way is to press pause-break button durring system startup at the screen that shows the irqs.
there you will be able to see the numbers of the irqs.
write them down.
after mach which if which are the ones you are looking for within device manager.
do not be confused by the 23 irqs that appear in the os.
the bios shows the "real" 16 irqs.

Re: Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
thanks for your replies! I will first try to put the scope card in another slot, and check which IRQ's are for which slots..
The scope card will be replaced by Xite-1 when it arrives, hopefully next week.
So, if im right, it doesnt mather if you turn off everything you dont need in the bios, or in the device manager?? I think it was Jimmy who said you can turn off all usb in the device manager, because they will still work
I will try some configurations now...

Re: Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
I attached pictures with IRQ list, with the scope card in 2 different slots. Only option left is IRQ 17, but the card doesnt fit in that slot , because of the sata cables ..
Im using 3 usb slots right now; for mouse, keyboard and Midisport 4x4. I could disable these usb ports and change them to another usb slot. I can also disable the PCI-E right now. But there is also a device called SMBus Controller. Can i put this one off also ? This way scope should have it's own IRQ.
I could find any IRQ list in the bios btw, using Pause/Break..

Re: Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
How about a wireless keyboard & mouse that only uses 1 USB port...not two?

Re: Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
i'd swap slots.
the sata controller probably won't make any issue, but the usb controllers will. it's no big deal to disable a couple of controllers though....

Re: Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
I still have crashes leaving the Sata controllers on and the usb off, so that my scope card is only sharing IRQ 21 with Sata controllers...
The only option left would be swapping the card to my other pci slot. I could disable all usb controllers for IRQ 17, but what about the Dual Channel PCI IDE controller? Can it also be turned off?
I think it would be wiser to get a usb hub, instead of a wireless usb mouse/keyboard in case i need some more usb slots in future...
Also, where can i find the IRQ list in the bios ?
any suggestions would be welcome

Re: Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
Screw that crap and just get the XITE-1...................
The Core2Duo E7400 is a mature CPU and the board is probably the last good quality Intel we'll see in a while.
Their new X58 mobo is a comprimise to allow other mobo maufacturers to sell their triple channel RAM solutions. It's a sacrificial lamb according to the builders I know. Gotta keep the gamer board guys happy.
The PCI slots are unstable, and I have heard that from a couple of pro's.
I was shocked that they haven't released a new design yet w/ triple RAM.
I can tell you that on my DP35DP GaryB built it and I use 4 out of 6 SATA ports.
Only 1 x USB controller is used, and I run a powered USB Hub for my iLok, Dongle, KS88, and QWERTY 1U.
Looking at my device manager only one USB port is enabled.
I had 3 x cards originally installed on it and now only a PCI-e 1X, and 1 x PCI-e 16X.
If it wasn't for all of these bloated VST sample players I wouildn't even need another board or CPU for a couple years.
This board is 100% stable, and GaryB has lots of experience with them.
So if he has any ideas I would definately take his word verbatum.

Re: Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
You're right Jimmy, but untill xite arrives, i will have to do deal with my scope card first...
Do you have all SATA ports disables in the device manager ??
Can you upload a picture of you're irq list in the system info ?
I will try some other configs..
Thanks

Give me a while because I am rehearsing 24/7 and I will have to ask GB how to find the shit.
I sound like I know my shit, but I a am a moron when it comes to being all scientific and everything.

Re: Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
did your problem solved yet? i have the same mobo(garyb TM)and it had problem with auto restart but after i update bios it looks nice for 4 months. btw exactly when should i press pause/break to see the list of irq? i tried (before the intel mobo page with f2 showing) but nothing happen
thanks

thanks
Re: Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
I have had a similat problem. If I plug in a external harddrive tone of the usb ports the system will hang. Hoever, if I boot the system with the hard drive plugged in it will work.
I have 3 pci slots, a 15 dsp scope, and 2 pulsars so all 3 slots are used. Do all of them use the interupt or only one. What can I do about irq's or is the one of those "don't do that" situations?

Re: Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
folks, just open system information(start/programs/accessories/system tools/system information/harware resources/conflits-sharing) and then look for the Scope card on the list. if it's there, you can swap slots and try again, or if swapping slots isn't an option, note the NAME of the usb controller that is sharing(1E7D or 2401D or similar). go to the device manager, open the universal serial bus menu, find and highlight the usb controller and then disable it(right click/disable or use the menu at the top of the device manager). recheck system info, shared irq should be gone. you do not need all of the USB controllers on the motherboard. while you're at it, go into the bios and disable all ports that will not be used(parallel, serial and audio)...
Re: Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
I am sure I am repeating myself, but the USB only motherboards from Intel were a mistake. Most boards went back to the PS/2 and USB design.
The best workaround for me was to disable all USB ports except one. Then use a powered HUB for that one where dongles, DVD's, iLok's and flash drives or HDD's, and a QWERTY / Mouse can go.
Most keyboard controllers can be ran just fine on disabled ports because they still have power after disabling them to do basic controller functions. I use 2 x M Audio KS88's running on 2 x disbled USB ports.
The cards worked on the DP35DP better than my old Supermicro or Intel 865. I got many more MVPro's and delays, so I know that board works well.
I am using it now w/ the XITE-1 and a single PCI-e 16X and couldn't be happier.
But I use the slowest cheapest video cards too.
I sound cheap, but actually hate unused resources.
I still have a DAW w/ a Matrox G450 w/ a whopping 16MB of DDRII RAM.............

Re: Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
winger,
The problem you are experiencing is most likely relating to the USB drive not being bootable. Your system is seeing it as the first boot device, but can't boot from there. You can probably correct this in your BIOS by changing the boot order, but you've already found the solution--don't plug the USB in before you boot. You could verify this with a bootable USB stick, or check your BIOS. I doubt that this particular issue relates to the IRQs. It's still a good idea to disable most of the USB options though.

cortone-yes, that's exactly right. the usb hd isn't bootable and will make the boot hang, and that's normal...

This might be helpful too.
With my Hub I can boot with everything.
But remember to keep the same ports for Dongles and iLoks as they will not work in different slots as they are smart USB sticks w/ attitude, and high priced.
Below is a QWERTY/MOUSE, DVD and the VST authorizations.
My KS88's go in the disabled ports underneath.
This HUB goes for 8 bucks so buy 2 of them just in case.

Re: Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
I neither didnt solve my problems... I did some swapping of the scope card to other pci slots, but that didnt work either.. I accidently put off one the usb controllers which resulted in a xp re-install because i couldnt use my keyboard/mouse anymore...
Two weeks ago , i decided to just wait for xite which would be delivered about a month ago, and still hasnt arrived
Also, pressing pause/break before the bios shows up didnt work.
Im sharing IRQ with 2x SATA controllers on IRQ 21 right now.

Re: Assigning IRQ's on Intel dp35dp
disabling usb won't mean a reinstall if the mouse/keyboard don't work. it means using a different usb port.
the sata controllers usually don't make problems, but as long as you connect the drives to other ports(you have like 6 sata ports), you can disable those, too!
