Cubase 5 craches with ASIO
Cubase 5 craches with ASIO
Hi all !
My setup is 4 Asio pairs in and out (Scope Pl 4.5) to Cubase 5.
Usually I use only one pair I/O in C5 but when I add a second buss in Cubase 5 it
craches ?
Tried this several times with the same result .
It worked better in C4 from time to time ?
any thoughts ?
or should I wait for Scope 5 ?
all the best !

maybe if you can write some more information or project picture

Re: Cubase 5 craches with ASIO
Hi Fidox !
Thanks for the reply !
Well !
3 pulsar cards
with scope 4.5
Quad core 3.0 Ghz Intel
4gb Ram....
Basicly I got Asio sourse module (4 st ch) conected to the scope mixer and from the mixers "direct out"
the Asio dest is connected (4 st ch).
In cubase VST connections you can add In and Out busses , and when I add an "In" buss everythings
Ok untill I change the "device port" to get the right asio channel . The System freezes and reboot my Pc ?
Everything else works just fine !
hope it help ?
Thanx / tuzzan

Re: Cubase 5 craches with ASIO
you mentioned "it worked better in Cubse 4", so you also had
crashes ?
which asio modules you use ?
mine setup is with asio 24bit - 16channels and in Cubase 16 out busses,
which latency you use ?
it's hard to say, also have 3 cards, i'm using P4 2.8, Abit IC7-875 chipset, PC Standard Mode and works like a charm, but,
i remember the times when i had crashes and i was force to change mobo, cause one card cause me troubles with that mobo (Asus).
but try first with different asio modules setup,
maybe

Re: Cubase 5 craches with ASIO
you can't change the number of asio channels or add or remove asio modules while cubase is open...
did you run the c4 asio patch on the S/C site?
how about a screenshot of your routing window?

Re: Cubase 5 craches with ASIO
Hi,
When you use vst connection ,you have to look out not to use the same in or out in your vst connection setup !,
this can make your C5 crash !
You also have to follow the order in your vst connection audio device-asio scope !
Also look in your cset.ini to have;
[board0]
boardid=0
[board1]
boardid=1
[Host-Config]
Numboards=2
Board0=Host
This is for my configuration, you have to adapt for your 3 boards.
Here a example for the project file and vst connection;

Re: Cubase 5 craches with ASIO
there is an update for C5 (5.0.1.147). although the version history doesn't contain something I would consider relevant for your problem, you might apply this update, nevertheless...

Re: Cubase 5 craches with ASIO
Hi all !
Well , I made some test .
I just want to say that I also use an Mackie HDR 24 recorder , in sync from Cubase 5.01
1. When I add a bus in Cubase VST connections everything works just fine , I can add all the busses that
is setup in Scope dest.
2.If I add only one bus (stereo in 2) and change the device port....Cubase crash ?
3 A new Q !!!
When I use the merge module ( see pic below) I can´t set my monitor level in the "Ctrl" section off the scope mixer (Mix) is on .
I have always used this level as my master level . That way I can make a realtime mixdown to my external PC , and mix from cubase and Mackie HDR together .
But from time to time I only use Cubase and would like to make a realtime mixdown with XTC - plugins,
but I cant set my listening level .
Hope U understand my poor spelling and language

Re: Cubase 5 craches with ASIO
I'll start off...
You're using the 64-channel ASIO2 modules, and 16bit versions to boot. I suggest you use at least the 24bit modules, and skip the 64 i/o versions. For 24bits try using just the ones labeled "ASIO2 24bit Source" and "ASIO2 Dest", or if you want 32bits use "ASIO2-32 Source 64" & "ASIO2 Dest-64" as shown in microraver's images--ie you'll need the 64 i/o versions for that. This most likely won't solve crashing, but I find the 24bit modules are sufficient for my needs and offer a huge gain in retaining the attack for highly dynamic signals over 16bits (drums especially and many bass instruments).
Make sure that the bus you're trying to assign as an input isn't being used in another panel (External FX etc). Try using the Cubase4 ASIO patch that stardust recommends (others can provide a link if you need.)

Re: Cubase 5 craches with ASIO
Hi Valis !
Thanks for your suggestions I´ll will change the ASIO2 modules at once !
Yes I already use the new cubase 4.1 patch
By the way , the projects that I work with right now is recorded in 16bit (Cubase) ,can I still
use the ASIO2 24bit ??
next time I´ll start rec in 24bit.
Regarding the crashes , I haven´t tried it yet but I noticed a thing that I could have done wrong .
The busses I add in C5 was "stereo" .And the direct out´s fromt the Scope mixer i "mono" ????
Maybe there is something wrong ?
I have to try it tomorrow .
All the best !

Re: Cubase 5 craches with ASIO
The ASIO2 modules will work fine with 16bit audio in your Cubase arrangement (it will be converted to 32bit float by Cubase's mixing engine during playback, then down to 24bit for the ASIO driver).
The direct outs that are mono on your mixer are from chan 1 & 2, then connected to ASIO 1L & 1R, which is fine as long as you create a mono bus/channel in cubase to accept only that side of the incoming signal. Ie, your first Input bus (already created) is getting mixer chan 1 on the left side and mixer chan 2 on the right side; how you deal with the signals within cubase's mixer & arrange page will determine what your results are from that point on.
The next bus you were creating (Stereo in 2) should receive signals from the ASIO 2L & 2R inputs (on the ASIO2 dest. module), and so on.
What are you using the 'DirectplayMixerContainer' for? My experiences using that (after win98) are less than successful and I've ignored it since then.

Re: Cubase 5 craches with ASIO
Hi Valis !
Thanks for your clarifying and help about my setup , the 'DirectplayMixerContainer' module is something
that just came along (old habbit i guess).
Thanks for letting me know .
I will adjust my setup to day

The change of ASIO modules seems to have solved all my problems !
Thanx for your support on this ! (all of you)
