Below is the results of this sundays Voice Count Test. (VCT for short)

My setup is a Scope/DP card running SFP 3.1
(That means using 14 dsp's for the voices, since one is used for "the system").

Could someone please do the test on PulsarII & Scope/SP boards ??? (The results should be the same v3.01)

Kim.

Geeeez! That SB404 is a bit rich. 14 voices?! Wowee! That's one voice per chip!

Does it sound awesome?!

Yes, it it sounds awesome, but the reason you're only able to get 14 voices is not because the synth structure is heavy on dsp use. After all it's a monophonic synth with 2 morphimg osc's and 2 filters. It has more to do with the build-in sequencer and FX's.

Sorry. That's really obvious - I'm just being a daft git I think.

I'll put up numbers for SFP (beta 9) on SCOPE/SP within the next few days. I think EarlyFirst will be posting up numbers for a Pulsar2 alone. Stay tuned, I'll edit this post then!

I played with the SB404 demo for a few minutes (to help J. Bowen resolving some sequencer issues on the Pro-One) and I didn't find it's sound too fantastic. It did have some nice feauture and cool rythmic possibilities but the Pro One beats it in terms of richness of sound (but it's even heavier on the DSP too!)

Thanx Paul. Now we're just waiting for /SP results, but my guess is that they're gonna be the same as /DP.
Can anyone think of a good reason to do the tests on a Luna card ?

Besides the fact Luna doesn't come with most of those devices you mean? BTW I do have a machine with just an Elektra(w/ STS3000) if anyone comes up with some test results they'd like to see on that.

I will do /SP soon, but I imagine the results will be almost idenitcal to the /DP results already posted.

when you think about it the voice counts are right on par with the VA synths of today....
at the PowerPulsar price point in some cases 5x the voices nice!

Yes, it's very good.
Now I'm just waiting for DXL to jump in here and do what he does best...

not exactly on the topic, but it fits in this context:
While concentrating on the number of voices available (which suggests a better or 'more fat' sound) one might overlook (at least I did for a long time) that some synth emulations (specially the monos) actually sound much better with less voices on

It's good seeing these stats. Perhaps John can replace some of his older stats with these newer ones at some stage.
