Need to wiggle card in slot before samplerate will show

Post by Pete »

Cleaning the contacts and trying another slot aren't the problem.

It does it in any slot, and my other card works fine in the same slots. The contacts have been cleaned, and it's been to Sonic Core for repair before.

Usually, when I start the computer, the card starts up with the samplerate window blank, and wiggling it in the slot cures it. It might take two or three tries. But the problem is usually back on the next startup.

Anyone else have this issue?

that almost has to be bad solder or the gold has been worn off the contacts, unless...

have you reseated the i/o daughter card? remove(carefully) the 4 nylon screws and reseat the i/o board. cleaning the connector with Deoxit D-5, Stabalint(spelling?) or Cramolin would be a good thing to try....

if you didn't have good luck with other cards, i might even suspect the connector on the mb...

Hmmm...
It seems to be better, so far!

What I did:
The bracket that screws on to the computer chassis was a little bent along its length, so I straightened it. That may may have been causing a minor seating disagreement, but it didn't look like it.
And,
I got a can of compressed air, took off the I/O plate, and blew air over all those little Sharc pins and surface-mount parts, also all the pins and sockets including the i/o-snake's connector. Also got an old cloth and wiped off the i/o connector pins. Also blew out the PCI slot on the computer.

So far, the samplerate hasn't failed to show in its window.
I'm not sure I'd do this unless you already have a problem, though.
Thank you for your comments, got me thinking.

Wow,

My Scope card has been running solidly since doing that.

It gave me trouble for a long time.
